Wow just made me want to shoot myself. You know for all of America's strengths one of its weaknesses is the desire to wallow in emotion and this film does exactly that. At some point it becomes narcissism and this victim culture is nurtured to justify whatever you want to do against 'them' whoever they maybe. You can even claim to be the victim while you're punching someone else in the face.

Well, as for me, my emotion from this film comes from a deep respect for all servicemen and women. Sometimes things like this should just make you cry. It keeps me humble and proud for the soldiers who do the things I would never be able to.

I appreciate the posts on this topic. I was afraid that it would be a very depressing film, and from the story it certainly sounds like it is. I am a volunteer at the local VA medical center and so I do have respect for all those in military service, but I'm sorry life can be depressing enough as it is especially these days of wars breaking out all over the place.
However I hear that Kevin Bacon is brilliant in the role. -

Well said, kicagree. My father would have loved this. He served in WWII and I'm touched that he gave me his dog tags and medals before he passed away. I didn't find this movie depressing, but very touching. This is just one storyabout one young man. Sadly, there are way too many others, men and women, that this could be about. But for someone like me who never served (when I was that age, there weren't all that many women in the service) I found it interesting and yes, a little sad, to see Chance's journey home. But I learned a little and thought they did a great job. I felt the same way you did. Thank you
