Okay, so there's this weird theory going around about season 3 that I thought I'd bring up.
People have noticed that starting only in season 3, all of the wilderness scenes have been shot with a yellow lens filter, which gives them a kind of magical, hazy glow.
The theory is that to some extent or other, what we are seeing in those wilderness scenes is actually not real. They probably really aren't flourishing all of the sudden and probably don't really have a cool camp with awesome looking teepee's. It might not even be spring. At some point, the show is going to pull the rug out from underneath viewers' feet and the awful truth about their actual situation will be revealed.
Now the show has already let us know that not everything we see is trustworthy and there have been collective hallucinations shared between the characters in the wilderness before, multiple times. Furthermore, Sophie Nelisse has said in one interview that the final scene from season 3 is going to have viewers shouting at their television sets.
So it seems not so crazy, but man. . .so much has already happened, like Ben's trial, that would require massive re-contextualization if huge swaths of what we're seeing is a delusion. Maybe there's some psychological aspect of the wilderness stuff that isn't real, and that's what the yellow lens filter is trying to convey, but I'm not on board with the wilder directions this theory is going in. -

So far I've only watched the first two seasons.
But what is described as a new theory (because of the yellow filters) is actually not new at all.
The confusion between reality and hallucination arose quickly in the wild.
Simply because they're all constantly on the verge of starvation.

The yellow filter may also be more evidence of a larger theory involving mercury poisoning from mining run off, as described in this video:

But also a bit of a break in style from the first two seasons.

Too out there to be well received by a television audience. It can be pulled off with very skillful and careful writing and delivery but I doubt theyβll go this route.
I do think much of what we are seeing is in their heads but I donβt think their new camp, the food, etc is an illusion. Just the supernatural elements, I kinda like the idea that those are a manifestation of group hysteria
