Then why did he say that?
I'm rewatching it tonight to see for myself. I usually watch new episodes 3-4 or more times in a row the same night but was too tired last night to put up with trying to hear HBO on my tv because that channel has crazy low volume at even maximum volume for some ****ed up reason. It's not just my tv either, it's that way on every tv or device i've ever had it on live or through app while everything else plays at 3-5 times their volume with the same settings.

RIP to Rhaenys and Meleys

Do you think Rhaenys went back to fight, when she had the chance to fly away, because of everything that she was denied and then what Rhaenyra is now being denied? She could have escaped but that look on her face when she told Meleys to attack that final time was like she was so angry and just wanted revenge for her and Rhaenyra. -

She knew she COULDN'T get away, and was already resigned to die. I think she knew from the start when she volunteered this outcome would be enevitable, and accepted it to make up for her previous poor decision making and not taking the whole lot of them out at his Aegons crowning and preventing all of this from every happening. She decided to take a crack at taking Vhagar out, but knew there wasn't much chance. No way in hell could Meleys outfly Vhagar, he's too big and his maximum speed would exceed any other dragons by far. Maybe outmaneuver him, but that still doesn't get you escaped.
Vhagar is a beast. The blacks never stand a chance as long as she's around. Vermithor even is probably considerably smaller than Vhagar, and he's the 2nd largest dragon, 3rd would be The Cannibal. Neither of those dragons even have riders yet, and really the only chance to kill him would be to hit her from all directions with every dragon they have, ripping out her belly like Rhaenya was trying for.
Vhagar did not escape the battle without injury, but it was still extremely lopsided. Hell, he managed to take out Sunfyre and Meleys at the same time, and it's only with luck that Aegon survived at all. If you can call his current condition surviving. Unless they dramatically change from the book and give control to Alicent like she's already gunning for, Aemond is now the defacto king until Aegon recovers from his massive injuries.
btw the show version of how this played out was FAR superior to the book. Thank god the writers are able to rework things and fill in the blanks far better than D&D did with GOT.
This may have been the best episode of all time. That battle went on for nearly half an hour and was truly epic, and not in the overused way.

I am not looking forward to next week's episode when Corlys finds out

Also having Meleys' head paraded through the streets
Presumably Rhaenys wouldn't have gone to battle if she knew Vhagar was gonna be there. I really hope the Blacks at least get a similar victory at some point (even if they don't ultimately win)
