this makes more sense when you understand that this sequel wasn’t meant to do well at the box office - it was intended to be a humiliation ritual to destroy the movie’s legacy as punishment for it resonating with the “wrong” people
There is no way that is true. No one would deliberately lose millions of dollars and sacrifice their career just to make a point. -

It was made to cash in on the success of the first film, with caveats to appease certain commentators (a girlfriend for the incel)
First film resonated with marginalised men. And that can’t be allowed when the real cultural enemy has to be the white-male patriarchy.
