Wouldn't Esther have periods?

Many people don't get their periods if they are very light. She was probably under 90 pounds and therefore didn't get them, or at least not too often. I have a friend who is 90 pounds because of a disease she has and she maybe gets them twice a year because of her weight.

That makes you the exception, not the rule. Most who are underweight have periods very rarely. Also, adding in the medical condition, it's likely she'd need hormone medication to cause these issues. So it's entirely possible she'd not have to beg Kate for tampons.

It's not usually weight that causes you not to have periods. Malnutrition and deficiencies would cause it but just being smaller and thin frame doesn't make you lose your ability to menstruate. -

Would it matter if she had them or not? As unusual as it can be, some girls can start menstruating as young as nine years old. It's indicated from the beginning that she is more 'mature' than others of her age. Having started menstruating at nine could even be excused as possibly genetic (she's from Russia, so there wouldn't be a reason to hide that she was having her period.

THIS plus, as others pointed out, Esther was very petite and generally the lower your body fat, the lighter your period (unless you have fibroids or something). Esther was probably very light, if she got periods at all.

If it's Turner's syndrome she has, most likely she wouldn't have periods. The ovaries of women with TS are undeveloped . Some do go on female hormones around the time of puberty, but not sure Esther would have had access to those.

Why does this question get asked so often? I'd like to think that most men aren't this ignorant about periods.
It's real easy to hide being on your period. If it's light enough you can just use toilet paper. If she was ever found out, well, some 9 year olds do already get periods. -

It's actually amazing how little some men seem to understand about the way the female body works.
The past couple of presidential elections in the U.S. have exposed a startling amount of ignorance about this stuff. -

I'm not a medical doctor, but according to the Wikipedia article
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypopituitarism
, hypopituarism, Esther's condition, supposedly can cause irregular, abnormal or absent menstruation. -
