Neither had a very prolific film career, apart from a couple of sensational roles.
Sounds like Mariel is just a working actor
I enjoy making things that are different. It makes for a better career. I don't want to do the same thing twice. I love the different roles I've played. I don't ever want to be pigeonholed! That's the great thing about acting – all these different people I can play, as long as audiences are willing to see them. The more different roles I do, the more different roles I will get.

It then sounds like typical MSM sensationalism to attribute Margaux's death to suicide and further proof one can't trust in what they read.
Mariel sounds like she is humble and wasn't that interested in a big star career. Not that this may have happened even if she was, but I sense that Margaux may have been the more ambitious one.

Margaux was a model, and she was perfect for the camera. Epilepsy maybe derailed her success? No idea

I enjoy
Lipstick
and that explosive ending is just so fitting.
Mariel had a lovely and serene screen presence about herself and if she really wanted it, I think she could have had a bigger movie career. She didn't appear to be egotistical and for that to happen, one has to want too and know how to play the game.
She was the best thing about Allen's over-praised
Manhattan - '79
. I just can't really connect with, or quite get into this pretentious and self-absorbed offering of his despite the music and gorgeous b&w cinematography. Its certainly not the radiant light that is

and
Interiors - '78
I find more compelling and even amusing to watch.

Mariel scored herself a best supp actress Oscar nom for her role in
Manhattan
. She is the light in the film, which has underlying ugly tones/themes despite it being a supposedly sophisticated comedy.
The other characters just aren't that likeable or endearing and if this was Allen's point, I don't think it worked and it was just a wish fulfillment fantasy of his, a 40 something dating a 17yr old.
I don't even get why Mariel's sweet Tracy character would even fall for such a creepy nebbish gorp and Allen sort of rehashed his Alvy Singer character from
Annie Hall
, in that Issac was educating her. It was the wrong type of education.
