Being familiar with the Asylum "Mockbuster" going in, I didn't think it was that bad. What were people expecting from this? As far as these movies go, the two leads weren't that bad. The only thing really painful were the monster effects.

This was the worst movie everI only lasted for 5 minutes and thought I would fast forward the rest ( saving 90 minutes )..all i can is how beep this was.
The acting was poormy god it was just a joke.
You saw no action and all these dumb lesbians do is talk and act like they were scared. -

I agree. And it gives some food for reflection: e.g. I do feel that Cloverfield is much better and so has some important additional values, but I can't define these values because these two movies have too much in common.
I mean if we distract "Monster" from "Cloverfield" we'll get nothing except some CGI and acoustic dynamic range (in fact poor sound makes "Monster" more realistic given it's shot with non-professional equipment:) -

For the most part I have to agree with your assessment. This was a film I really wanted to like a lot but just couldn't. The major flaws in this movie were bad monster effects but contradictory, not enough monster action and battles against it.
Another major flaw was the 1st person camera filming style wasn't used to maximal affect. The camera was to focused on the actors and not what was going on around them and the shakiness and picture blacking in and out was excessive even for this style of movie. -

It seemed to me that they tried to make up for the poor effects by toying with the camera more, leading to more blackout moments and weird camera distortions. I think this movie was good for what it was, considering the poor budget I'm sure they had to work with, but I would like to have seen it properly done (although I understand that would have been impossible).
