I've never seen the movie but I've heard good things about it from Eli Roth and his associates that judge horror films. They placed this movie close to the top 10 if not part of the top 10. Can't remember.

that's what they always do with characters who do common sense things when everyone is being an idiot.
they want you subconsciously conditioned to never want to be that guy who strays from the herd, even if it makes sense to. to keep yourself in plato's cave voluntarily and to even police others when they step out.
