Women have LONG been treated as equals? Where are you from, a parallel universe? Over 95% of CEOs are men, there are precious few female colonels, never mind generals, and unlike Pakistan, that scion of male oppression, we haven't had a woman elected to the highest government position. Hell, we haven't even had a female VP or Speaker of the House. Treated as equals, my butt.
BTW, women got the vote AFTER black men. That's right. People white men didn't even view as fully human were allowed to vote before women were. That should tell you something about the uphill battle women faced and continue to face.

If the protagonist had been black, he would've complained about "the blacks" taking over movies.
If the protagonist had been anything but who he is, a white male with a fragile ego, it's some conspiracy.

Just go watch S6 of GoT to see feminism in full effect in the Biggest show on Tv. Its pretty sad. Oh well

WOW. Seriously. Have you not seen the 95% of movies where the 'man' is the hero? Where the woman is some swooning idiot who just screams the whole time? If your male ego is so fragile, I'd suggest you stop watching movies. And the idea that women are equal? Are you afraid to be alone with men because you've been warned your whole life that you may be attacked or raped? Have you spent 90% of your time ensuring you don't go down dark alleys or drink too much or wear 'provocative' clothing because you've been programmed from birth to not 'TEMPT' rapists and attackers? Rather than teach men NOT to rape and abuse women, we have to deal with how to NOT be raped or attacked. You have NO idea of what it's like. If feminism is such a threat to you, maybe you are the one with the problem.

Co-sign on everything you saidand Hollywood is nowhere near as "feminist" as the idiot OP claims it is. If anything, indie films tend to be way more feminist, since a lot more of them are made by women than in Hollywood. Obviously the OP hasn't heard of just how few female directors there are in Hollywood, or how few heads of Hollywood studios are female, or anything else in the business. This person needs to stfu and do some real research, because everything the OP said was some real bull**** plain and simple. -

Any of the scifi films from the 50's and 60's depict the female lead as intelligent and on the same page as the men. Only when he shooting starts do they tend to take a back seat but not necessarily. In 1944's "Captain America" and female lead shoots dead as bad guy at point blank range and does not even blink!
The thing is the late 60's and 70's equal rights movement created a sub movement of feminists who wanted nothing to do with equality but wanted men simply out of the picture. What is one of their slogans? "A woman needs a man about as much as a fish needs a bicycle." That ideology made it's way to the still male dominated Hollywood who incorporated these women are better than men and do not need them beliefs into popular entertainment to appeal to that base. -

b) this movie would not have worked the same with a male role since it depended her being like his daughter and his need for some one like that in his life.
c) its pretty sad woman are getting more main rolls in movies and tv series how? There's still plenty of male lead series and movies so what the problem?
d) the men aren't portrayed as weak and clumsy, in this Emmett was shown as a nice guy, who was brave af and litterly took a bullet for her. In GoT theres still plenty of great male characters, in fact the two of the three main characters are male (Jon and Tyrion).

I don't believe the OP to be trolling. There is a new strain of beardy disaffected young men who seem to believe that things have gone far enough for women and that they should shut up.
I assume they (the men involved) feel so powerless in this world that they need something or some section of society to blame for their ills.
Check youtube for many videos by young men (20/30's) ranting about women.
British press comments pages always have the same rants, some of them very bitter. -

Yes, how dare a film feature a female character in a leading role who isn't an incapable weakling who needs to be rescued by a man. The horror! Must be those pesky 'feminazis' at work again. Sigh.
For what it's worth, feminism is a movement that strives for equality for both sexes. It does not claim that women are superior, or that we should be "on top", just that we desire and deserve equal opportunities to men. ALL women should be feminists and should never feel like they have a apologise for being one. It's really a shame that the idea of equality is still so offensive to so many people.
The sad thing is, I came on this board fully expecting to find a thread like this on page 1 and as usual, IMDB did not disappoint.

Seriously, you are nothing but a damn troll who has obviously never picked up an actual American history book if you actually believe all the bull**** you just posted. Sexism is real, always has been. And damn near 99% of movies (especially from Hollywood) feature mainly men in the action roles in action movies. As far as action movie heroines go, look how long it been taking to get a Wonder Woman franchise off the ground-as popular as superhero films are now, there's still this belief in Hollywood that a film featuring a female superhero won't pull in the big box office bucks (even though some male superhero films haven't made it at the box office,either.) Heck, the only films I can think of that I've seen this year with a woman doing action as the lead is the drug cartel thriller SICARIO, and this film. And before that, MAD MAX:FURY ROAD (which started this whole recent whining about women being the leads in action films, which is still stupid and dumb as hell.) You obviously don't know jack about feminism, or real American history, and that's why you sound like an idiot.
Check out the recent documentary SHE'S BEAUTIFUL WHEN SHE'S ANGRY about the history of American feminism (as told by feminists themselves.) It's good, and you'll have fun learning some real history as opposed to the ridiculous unreal version you just made up while drunk as hell or something.
