Ever since war of the worlds came out, all alien ships have to be living creatures.
You believe War of the Worlds invented biological ships?

The entire movie was very good. The ending left an opening for a sequel which is a good thing. My family of five, ages 28-64 all enjoyed the film immensely. Anyone who complains about this film is not a sci-fi fan. Science fiction as good as this are not common and anyone who likes sci-fi has a responsibility to encourage more production activity. Negativity only discourages funding of this most expensive genre.

It was a flaming molotov cocktail, which she deliberately employed after she was shown reacting to the explosions
In other words, they spelled out her awareness that the aliens' "gas" was highly flammable & explosive
The movie shows the aliens' vulnerability to flame, and shows Michelle spotting that vulnerability -

I have no clue why anyone would like the ending, it is completely out of place and unneccesary. The film is phenomenal, but the ending is awful. It had a Super 8 kind of feeling

To the OP, I thought it was gutsy to actually go for an ending that had a lot more reveal to it, after years of seeing the style of 'what is the out there?'. I totally expected it to end with just a hint of alien invasion but, instead, the director chose to go for a lot less ambiguity which I have to commend. Of course there's the noodniks that inevitably will whine about 'the ending sucked' because they thought it looked 'fake' or the aliens were 'dumb' and on and on.
I liked the ending because the director didn't take the easy way out but he very well could have because the original protagonist was dealt with, from the apparent talk though I suppose it was done to build to another sequel so there's that I suppose too.

I agree, IMO they shouldve ended it with an open ending, questioning if Howard was right after all, or wrong like she thought, like when she took her mask off, have a shot on her face for like 5 seconds, then end the movie. Couldve started many interesting discussions.
This ending was out of place, and unneccesary.

Both of those ideas came to mind after I saw this film.
Either to have her look in the distance (while keeping the camera on her face) and show her reacting to something we don't see, leaving us all guessing, or to leave in that one shot of the ship which resembles a helicopter from profile, and cut to black just as it turns around and starts to appear otherworldly.
Maybe someone's made a fan edit of that by now? -

Because i knew going in this was set in Cloverfield universe and was expecting a big reveal since the moment she decided to escape, so while not exactly what i expect, this pretty much fit in to what i wanted from this movie.
Also im one of those crazy people that love CGI sci-fi.

I just thought it was fun. I wasnt expecting her to go all jedi and destroy the flying vagina dentata. That thing was so ugly! Just a really entertaining movie for me. Right movie for the mood I was in at the time. Yes it was totally over the top, especially after the mood of all the scenes with John Goodman who was excellent, but I just had fun with it.

ugggghhhhh*
Firstly- The aliens was a necessary link needed to connect to the originalthus making it the sequel to Cloverfield.
Secondly- If they didn't elaborate on that scene, it would have left unanswered questions (Was the air contaminated? If not, why did the lady who was banging on the door have burnt skin? What caused the animals to die?)
Thirdly- The UFO spraying the green mist is the answer to those possible unanswered questions.
Fourthly- It leaves it open for a possible third movie. Maybe characters form the 1st and 2nd will unite for a 3rd. Who knows. -

The whole movie's theme is domestic abuse. Howard has all the characteristics of an abuser. He's controlling, manipulative, and abusive. Some of the stuff he says includes "no one is looking for you. You can't leave because this is the best life you have. It's dangerous out there. You should appreciate what I have done for you." He tries to make it seem he's doing what's best for Michelle but in reality he cares more about controlling her than showing empathy. That's why he tells her that the outside world is too dangerous.
This is how I view the ending. Michelle eventually escapes and finds that the outside world is indeed dangerous. She doesn't escape her problems just because she left her abuser. She still has her own inner demons (in this case, aliens) to fight.
Eventually Michelle is given a choice. She can either go to where the survivors are or help in the fight. She ultimately decides that she no longer wants to be feel like a victim. She decides to join in the fight instead of running away from her problems.
My main gripe with the ending is how silly it looked when the alien died to the molotov cocktail. I still think the ending tied well with the rest of the movie when you understand that the movie's theme is domestic abuse. -

This is for anyone whom doesn't know the movie is analogous to domestic abuse.https://weminoredinfilm.com/2016/03/29/about-10-cloverfield-lanes-surprise-ending-the-director-has-an-explanation/
Trachtenberg (the director) explains the theme of the movie and why the ending ties with it. The theme of domestic abuse isn't really subtle at all. -

I really enjoyed the ending, the hints about what was going to happen were dropped throughout the movie so it wasn't just thrown in. One thing I paid attention to when I was watching it again was the gas igniting when in contact with fire, showing that the creature's weakness. Another thing I wanted to say is if this seemed like a strange or stupid weakness, remember Signs when the weakness was water, and how in War of the Worlds that bacteria killed them? Every alien shown in cinema has a weakness that while sounding simple when revealed but still having it be a menacing creature.
I loved the movie and thought the ending was great, its not something you would or even should expect but its not something that was tacked on for no reason.
"I grew up in Dublin, I love Dublin. If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't."
