Both of those ideas came to mind after I saw this film.
Either to have her look in the distance (while keeping the camera on her face) and show her reacting to something we don't see, leaving us all guessing, or to leave in that one shot of the ship which resembles a helicopter from profile, and cut to black just as it turns around and starts to appear otherworldly.
Maybe someone's made a fan edit of that by now?

Because i knew going in this was set in Cloverfield universe and was expecting a big reveal since the moment she decided to escape, so while not exactly what i expect, this pretty much fit in to what i wanted from this movie.
Also im one of those crazy people that love CGI sci-fi.
Resistance is impolite, Friendship is mandatory.

I just thought it was fun. I wasnt expecting her to go all jedi and destroy the flying vagina dentata. That thing was so ugly! Just a really entertaining movie for me. Right movie for the mood I was in at the time. Yes it was totally over the top, especially after the mood of all the scenes with John Goodman who was excellent, but I just had fun with it.

          ugggghhhhh*
Firstly- The aliens was a necessary link needed to connect to the originalthus making it the sequel to Cloverfield.
Secondly- If they didn't elaborate on that scene, it would have left unanswered questions (Was the air contaminated? If not, why did the lady who was banging on the door have burnt skin? What caused the animals to die?)
Thirdly- The UFO spraying the green mist is the answer to those possible unanswered questions.
Fourthly- It leaves it open for a possible third movie. Maybe characters form the 1st and 2nd will unite for a 3rd. Who knows.

The whole movie's theme is domestic abuse. Howard has all the characteristics of an abuser. He's controlling, manipulative, and abusive. Some of the stuff he says includes "no one is looking for you. You can't leave because this is the best life you have. It's dangerous out there. You should appreciate what I have done for you." He tries to make it seem he's doing what's best for Michelle but in reality he cares more about controlling her than showing empathy. That's why he tells her that the outside world is too dangerous.
This is how I view the ending. Michelle eventually escapes and finds that the outside world is indeed dangerous. She doesn't escape her problems just because she left her abuser. She still has her own inner demons (in this case, aliens) to fight.
Eventually Michelle is given a choice. She can either go to where the survivors are or help in the fight. She ultimately decides that she no longer wants to be feel like a victim. She decides to join in the fight instead of running away from her problems.
My main gripe with the ending is how silly it looked when the alien died to the molotov cocktail. I still think the ending tied well with the rest of the movie when you understand that the movie's theme is domestic abuse.

This is for anyone whom doesn't know the movie is analogous to domestic abuse.https://weminoredinfilm.com/2016/03/29/about-10-cloverfield-lanes-surprise-ending-the-director-has-an-explanation/
Trachtenberg (the director) explains the theme of the movie and why the ending ties with it. The theme of domestic abuse isn't really subtle at all.

I really enjoyed the ending, the hints about what was going to happen were dropped throughout the movie so it wasn't just thrown in. One thing I paid attention to when I was watching it again was the gas igniting when in contact with fire, showing that the creature's weakness. Another thing I wanted to say is if this seemed like a strange or stupid weakness, remember Signs when the weakness was water, and how in War of the Worlds that bacteria killed them? Every alien shown in cinema has a weakness that while sounding simple when revealed but still having it be a menacing creature.
I loved the movie and thought the ending was great, its not something you would or even should expect but its not something that was tacked on for no reason.
"I grew up in Dublin, I love Dublin. If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't."

I liked the ending as well. As stated it brought out the fight in her and she finally decided running away was no longer an option for her. After the gas passes by her and ignites I too had to back it up and replay to realize it was igniting due to contact with fire. The bunker had recently exploded and left small smoldering stuff on the lawn. That's what ignited the gas.

I liked the ending because the whole movie showed Michelle's progression from victim to survivor to thriver. She tells us she came from a history of violence and runs away whenever she's faced with fear. Then she's forced to make some life-or-death decisions, she can't simply run away and hide to survive. The ending means to me that she's chosen to stop just surviving, to thrive by using her gathered knowledge to help others.

Justify? It was a great ending. 😄 Surprising, suspenseful What a twist. Right to the final second when she decides where to drive. Great movie, I love movies like this that aren't shy and dare to surprise, bend genres and throw things around a little! 10/10 from me, brave!

I liked it becuase, well I wanted her to succeed and she did, and through out the whole sequence I was on edge still. through out the whole movie you know aliens are going to happen at some point and it built up to that final fight for survival. if it has just ended as her looking of into the distance I would have been a bit disappointed to be fair. it ended with a bang. admittedly I would have preferred it if the part with the radio has been cut and it was just her driving into the distance after the fight at 10 cloverfield lane
Pointing me out on spelling is just one hell of a poor argument..

The ending disappointed me, as well. The movie set itself up for an extremely refreshing "maybe trust people before you antagonize them" message. When she left the bunker and spotted the ship in the distance, I was extremely excited. She would then wish she were back in the bunker. No dice, though, because she freaked the hell out, killed Howard and torched the place. Then she becomes Alien dinner.
But then you can feel the marketing executive stink all over the rest of the ending. Brief cat-and-mouse with a beast with a clear upper hand over her? Then, she's almost gassed, but thank God she had her first grade art project gas mask with her. You know. Just make sure you're pressing the fabric against your neck, and surely you'll prevent any of the gas from making its way into your nose and mouth.
And then she's almost devoured by the Alien ship. Luckily, that liquor she brought with her was 151 (you know, in case running away from her fiancee makes her want to destroy her liver in one sitting, later). Make a molotov out of that bastard, toss it into the alien ship's mouth and then thank God that your hair-brained plan just freaking decimates it. Someone call the army. These disgusting freaks just hate it when you throw flaming booze into their gobs.
Then comes the real twistshe ignores the radio's cry for help after they say "we're winning" in Baton Rouge and instead drives to Houston where it looks like some real beep going down. Surprise, beep It's the same movie about running toward problems rather than away from them that's kept Hollywood's money boner flying its flag since the birth of Hollywood!
Marketing Executive: "Hmm, good film. Throw in some Transformers and set us up for a franchise with lots of explosions in it, and we can call it a wrap!"

i did not like the ending because there was zero suprise.with or without the trailer i coul guess the endind from the first min.the problem was that i had slowly wait during endless booring scenes to fine out that there was no suprise, and the aliens?there has been many cool aliens typy of invasion movies/tv.war of the world, falling skies etc.so actually no suprise in these one.sorry.3/10

The film felt it didn't need to have Michelle run back to her bf. The final shot was very Twilight Zone-esque in that what you just watched was only a hint of a much bigger story, more things that were happening beyond the "hour of tv" you had just watched.

I loved it because for all her cynicism, she was wrong. And even though everything pointed to Howard being a raving lunatic, he was right. Everything you think you learn over the course of the story is thrown on its head.
