So with the unfortunate word of Starfleet Academy's cancellation, Star Trek as a franchise is essentially over. This news is unwelcome, but not unexpected. Starfleet Academy received a pick up for two seasons from the previous owners of Paramount. When the Ellison's took over, it was a show they inherited. I have a friend who works in the industry and he told me flat out a year ago that Academy was already dead and would not get a third season. It was internally cancelled shortly after the Skydance merger was completed. The Ellisons are MAGA. They has Trump lapdogs who have already cancelled Stephen Colbert and destroyed CBS News to please their master. I was told they did not like Star Trek's focus on diversity. In a word: They hate everything Star Trek stands for.
The Ellisons plan to relaunch Star Trek as an action/adventure franchise with no social commentary at all. In other words, it won't REALLY be Star Trek. It'll be a generic Sci-Fi show wearing a Star Trek mask.
So Star Trek as it has existed for 60 years is now dead (aside from the already shot three seasons that havent aired yet. Seasons 4 and 5 of Strange New Worlds and Season 2 of Academy)
SO the good news is this: Strange New Worlds is a great series and Starfleet Academy is even better still. If real Star Trek has to end, at least it's going out on a high note.
And on the bright side, once the Ellisons are gone, maybe the next owners of Paramount will bring Star Trek back.
We'll see.
You're from the future?Well that's brilliant!Do they still have sandwiches there?
