Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Thaw

The Thaw made me think it was a looney liberal's version of Cabin Fever. The in-your-face political/eco-terrorism theme was just too much to stomach.

It was like a better version of Cabin Fever. No stupid rednecks, no weird biting kid, no 'party' cop, and no man-eating dog which makes this film look like a masterpiece in comparison.
Witty closing remarks have been replaced by massive head trauma and severe hemorrhaging.

The movie was good. Not great. Not bad, but good. The idea has potential. While I agree the message on global warming was pushed a bit much towards the end of the film, it lent itself well to setting up discovery of the parasite. There will always be doubters and this movie feeds into the stereotype that the doubters or the ones who don't think with a logical mind end up the way of the Dodo.
Look at Night of the Living Dead for example, or any Romero zombie movie. On one hand you have those who refuse to believe what is going on around them, they still cling to their loved ones, even though their loved ones have turned (or eventually will) into ravenous zombies. This usually leads to an ignorant person being killed. And then you have those select few who know what needs to be done and are willing to sacrifice to make it happen. As you can see, there were more ignorant people than rational. Watch the beginning of "Dawn of the Dead" 1978, it pretty much sums up what I'm getting at.

Yeah, really on of the worst ive seen in a while. The actors were terrible and characters so stupid.
In the film a woman is in the bed and got something in her troat so she cant breath. They are 5 people just standing there and watch her die instead of turning her around. I mean In a situation like that people act on instinct.
