If you are going to continue a series, and need to replace an character that looks like Elizabeth, with a personality like her, you dont trade it for Penlope Cruz.
Seriously. The equation of the movie was perfect. Jack Sparrow, Will and Elizabeth - THATS the movie right there.
If you have to change it, get actors that resembles them.
How can people work in the industry and still not figure this out? beep Idiots. -

They didn't "replace" Elizabeth with Penelope Cruz. They played completely different characters.Did you not notice that she was called "Angelica" ? There was no need to hire actors who "resembled" those who were gone.I think you are a bit confused.
Quite frankly, not having to see the cadaverous Ms.Knightley with her clenched jaw, screeching delivery and non-existent "personality" was what allowed me to enjoy this film so much more than the second or third.
Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom chose to leave the franchise for their own reasons. At World's End had them onscreen three times longer than Johnny Depp and the film was a failure and almost prevented a fourth and soon fifth film from being made. Their exits revitalized the series and I say good riddance.
I am not a fan of Penelope Cruz but she was also not the focus of the film and knew it. Many other characters were given screen time here due to Bloom's and Knightley's absence.
So apparently, you CAN continue a series without them. Thank goodness !
The people who work in the industry knew exactly what they were doing in letting two dead weights jump overboard.

I hate to break it to you but kk and Orlando Bloom are pirates of the Caribbean. And your in the vast mminority in thinking what you said. This movie is much worse much like the ratings will prove to people that you're in fact wrong entirely.

Hate to break it to
you
, but this film made over $1 billion worldwide. Clearly, Johnny Depp is Pirates of the Caribbean.
If any character is comparable to Keira Knightley's character, it is the mermaid - her love story obviously is the "replacement" love story after Keira Knightley and Orland Bloom's departures.
I feel like the 'Pirates' franchise could've been successful even without Keira Knightly and particularly Orlando Bloom, who I felt added little. Not that he's a bad actor, and all the teenage girls love him, but he doesn't particularly make a great pirate in my opinion. -

Minority depends on what age group you're talking about. Adults couldn't care less about the love story awkwardly hauled through 3 films. There was too much time wasted on side trips like the cannibal island and the puzzle that was AWE. No one could solve it, pieces were missing. So, the wackadoodle ending for this soap opera love affair was a great relief.

I actually liked will and Elizabeth.
But I could careless if they were together or not. I actually never saw the romance between them. They would have been better off as best friends since childhood.

cadaverous Ms.Knightley
Cadaverous? Say what? I really don't know what you mean by inferring she looks like a corpse.
I enjoyed the back and forth with Kiera and Jack and missed her in this film. Like others she WAS part of POC it's too bad she didn't continue with this movie so they just put another in her place that IMO didn't match up to Kiera's role as a love interest.

Why not? Lizzy wasn't the greatest character ever to come along. She was a self involved piece of fluff who had an eye twitch and a lousy personality. I like Cruz. She had a woman's face, body and temperament. Lizzy did not represent anyone over 17.

I would of normally agreed with such a statement about Penelope Cruz but she was pregnant during filming, so they had to make a lot of allowances because of this, meaning a lot of shots are her head rather than a proper shot. which kinda spoilt this for me wish they had just cast the gorgeous Salma Hayek instead, she is completely stunning.
I enjoy Keira in the English lady roles and enjoyed her in these movies too. The fact that she lacks breasts is not really her fault

I missed Kiera.
And some guys don't particularly like large breasted women. Especially when they are on top and those things are swinging around bopping you in the head like baseball bats.
I hope they bring Kiera back in what may be the last of the POTC series.

I'm not saying you must cast someone with huge breasts, I'm a straight woman so I wasn't thinking about her like that. BUT she has no boobs what so ever, nothing she almost as flat as a boy. She's a beautiful woman, but even she said she loved playing the part coz it was the first time she'd had breasts, but it was all chicken fillets under them to push what little she had up, a corset to hold them there and shading just to give her some cleavage. I'm quite sure that whilst not all men like huge breasts, they at least like some breasts and don't want a woman with nothing at all on top

They should have chose an unknown for her part. Cruz was miscast. Even still, the screenplay wasn't particularly good. The theme and acting however, was great.
The movie tried to be too much, rather then just get back to its roots. It was also too soft. We didn't fear Blackbeard like we did Barbosa or Davie Jones. The "funny" moments felt forced.
Really hope the fifth installment feels more like PoC 1 or 2

I got REALLY tired of will and liz about midway through the 3rd film. After watching the behind the scenes of Dead Man's Chest it all makes sense. Those two writers should've been fired and never brought back. They weren't even close to a finished script by the time casting was taking place let alone when the filming started and then they literally laughed in an interview and said that it's good because then no one can do a rewrite. What a bunch of holier than though, unprofessional lazies.

I liked On Stranger Tides so much more then the 2nd and 3rd movies. The Will and Elizabeth story I feel they completely messed up on. They ruined it for me. I would like to see them come back for the 6th movie though to end it right.

If I was in charge , I would never replace annoying limey-accented keira with even more annoying latino-accented penelope crap . Whenever these 2 annoyingly accented characters spoke , I had to mute the sound or skipped through their scenes .
I would choose the mermaid girl to be the main female character instead , she is cute and has normal accent .
