F**cking 48 episodes? Are you kidding me? Best cop drama hands down since NYPD Blue. Why were so few people into it? Maybe it was too intense. This is one of my favorite shows ever tho. Rap with me if u agree.

I love this show, yes this could've gone on and on. As I'm watching my new Christmas Southland DVD's, I swear there are similar police incidences that has been happening in L.A. These past few days that I've just watched here on the show! Even the mob scene in L.A.'s Jungle area where the police are being overwhelmed by the crowds and the adrenalin from the people are similar to today's anti police situations. This was such a powerful show, I'm sad this has not been widely screened so that people can see the human side of the law enforcement.

Why didn't the show catch on.for one the Network (NBC) sabotaged it by changing the time slots, secondly, further sabotage in lack of promotion. Third. NBC dropped the show too soon, like a hot potato. Fourth: in my opinion the first two seasons were slow in developing character and plot linesand anyone who has seen all 5 seasons ( I own all 5 on Vudu) then you know that the 3rd, 4th, and 5th seasons blow away the first two. but because of the above listed items, you had already lost a major portion of your viewing audience.
I thought the show was fantastic with a lot of potential, and could have easily continued for a few more seasons. Alasthis has been a trend in Hollywood of late, cancelation of shows long before they have a chance to get established. It seems Hollywood has fallen victim to the disease of instant gratification. If it doesn't pull spectacular ratings in the first month, send it to the chopping blocktoo many shows with potential have gone the way of Southland.for exampleThe Chicago Code, NYC22, Lie To Me.fools

I've just finished SOUTHLAND and feel a little lost without it. Is NYC22 worth watching?

I liked NYC 22 as well. Another Sparkling example of a show cancelled before its time. I recommend highly

The saddest thing is that this show struggled, yet lazy lame crap like Blue Bloods, with some of the worst writing and acting in tv history does well. Shows the stupidity of the American public

Talking about one of the best cop shows ever. I was just watching some old Law & Order episodes and who's puffy face pops up on the screen? Young Shawn Hatosy! Took me a second to recognize him though ^^
Episode was #16 from the sixth season "Savior". And btw, Ellen Pompeo is in it as well.

Saw Shawn Hatosy the other day on a repeat episode of
                  Law and Order:SVU
in which he plays a delivery man who plays out a rape fantasy for a female client that later claims it was rape.

Very unfortunate cancellation. NBC did screw it over - proving once again that people who are bungling loonies can actually reach executive status in large corporations. It's just nonsense.
This was a tremendous show. Gritty. Real. Good character development for the on going narrative. Exceptional acting. And yet excellent single episodes. I just don't get it. Very unfortunate. And what's with the 5 seasons? It was 43 episodes. Which is really only 3 seasons (two decades ago that would put it at less than two seasons when shows often ran 26 episodes each year. Can you imagine?). But I suppose this is the price of our increasingly segregated postmodern world.

One other reason TNT cancelled it was because it was so expensive to produce, compare it to say
                      Law & Order: SVU
which has 24 episodes a season most of it is just talking in the Squad Room or Courthouse. I mean they aren't even videotaping their suspects in interrogations. You're not seeing car or foot chases very often because you have to close off streets and other areas to the public as well as filming permits.

Absolutely agree with you! I'm in the Army Reserves but have mates in Law Enforcement and they say that it is probably the most realistic cop shows on TV. Their episodes are filmed on the streets (and actually cast gang members) where the action really happens for Patrol Officers and 50% desk time for Detectives following up leads etc.

You are so right, brother. I've exhausted myself hoping for the ways they might crank another season out. It's not meant to be.
                        Heartbreaker.

Nearly every show leave their season finale with a cliffhanger ending that will be answered in the first episode of the next season. When they wrote that Cooper got shot close twice leaving it to be answered in the next Season they didn't know that they were going to be cancelled. Unfortunately TNT cancelled it leaving it open but we all knew he would surprise if there was to be a Season 6.
However leaving it on that cliffhanger worked out as one possible Series Finale but there were still other questions to be answered with the other major characters.

I love this show. I'll never understand why it was cancelled:(
Another annoying thing is that the official Facebook page was hacked and will never be brought back to what it was.
Such a shame. I recommend this show a lot. I sometimes re-watch random episodes and love them.
