I watched this at home and when a film doesn't grab me I go on internet and leave it on in the background.
I could never watch this in a theatre.
The third act was pretty intense but it doesn't save this mess.

There's one scene with Meryl Streep that's worth the price of admission.

I'd say there are several scenes that are, but which one are you thinking of,
              HesterHere
              ?
              Meryl Streep is a shape-shifter.

Waityou walked out of True Lies? What sort of movie were you expecting with Ahnold and Jaimie Lee and Tom Arnold starring in it? Jeez, were you thinking Shakespeare was gonna flow outta the the screen and into your lap?

Don't worry about it, everyone does something stupid sooner or later and everyone fails to understand something at some point in their lives. It doesn't mean you are stupid or mean or anything like that.

Well, going out on a limb here, but if you found it boring, it's probably because you're lucky enough to have never known anyone like that.
I saw it once in real life: charming. . .charming. . ."love you, honey". . . hug, hug, hug. . .vicious sucker punch to the gut. . .laugh. . .[hair toss]. . ."just being honest". . . charm, charm, charm. . .
It wasn't a long-term experience for me, fortunately, but I was gobsmacked and always thought that depth of mean streak was rare and unique. Then the writer said in the commentary that Violet's character was loosely based on his grandmother and that people come up to him all the time to say that he'd captured the essence of their mother, etc.
Yikes. The amazing things that go on behind other peoples' doors.

It takes a lot of ego to be proud to do something so childish
Perhaps our greatest cruelty is our blindness to the despair of others.

Can you please tell us a movie that you thought was brilliant? I loved this movie and I thought True Lies was pretty entertaining, if not exactly a cinematic masterpiece. I'm not being flip, but because the only qualification to your discourse was the word "trash," I would like to know, in your opinion, what's not trash? (And what made this trash?)
Like another poster said on page 3 of this thread: maybe you're one of the people that have never had to deal with people like these. I've known several women like Violet, who are hateful and mean and "get off" on hurting those around her ("I'm the strong one! I'M the strong one!"). This movie was unpleasant to watch, but it had so many truths to it. Ever dealt with a prescription drug addict? They are not fun. Neither are alcoholics, esp when they are your elderly parents. We are taught that we are to take care of our parents in their twilight yearswell, what if your own mother calls you a whore, tells you to keep your slutty hands off her husband (your own father) and flashes you her "cooch" (to quote Barbara, lol) one night when she's laughing at you because your boyfriend is a beep (Then would slopper all over the beep at family functions.) This sh*t actually happened to my best friend when she was in HIGH SCHOOL. She went on to get a master's degree, which her mother used as a reason to attack her ("you think you're so f-ing smart with your MSW LMNOP degree, but you don't have a MAN!") and once forced her son to French kiss her before he could go to bed. And that's not even my own family.
I believe this movie resonated with so many people because a LOT of people have family members like this. Your pride in walking out of this movie says a whole LOT about youmore than it says about the movie, unfortunately. Still, I would like to know a movie that you think is worthy of praise.

I cannot believe you wished death on the entire cast of a movie simply because you didn't like it.

I have only left one movie before the end prior to this piece of cinematic trashTrue LiesAugust:Osage County was so bad I don't care how it endedI have not curiosity and could care less if the entire cast died in a house fire
That was the worst part, it had no end. A nice fire would have been great. The acting may have been good, but the story was awful. I thought movies were supposed to be entertaining.

Bring back old time censors, I say. It would be much better movie if all profanities were changed and director should make a really effort and hard work to express all rudeness and hysterical screaming without torturing viewers with 'reality TV' like films. if people wanted to watch some fictious story to be "real" then a movie is a bad choice to present it.
Movies should be about entertainment - even drama films - not feeling sick and disgusted by it. there are limits and boundaries of what is watchable. as i said on Her (2013) imdb forum, i love 'who's afraif of virginia woolf', i watch it time after time. sure there are some profanities in it, but there are no anal sex cureses that we are showered with at the start of this movie. there are yellings and uncomfortable discussions in 'virginia', but it is made with grace and you can watch it again. this 'august' movie is not the case. it's worth to watch only one time, i don't see myself torturing myself once again for 2 hours with this movie ever again.
Apart of explicit rape-like sex scenes fortunately not shown here, these kind of films are what balkan movies are about ever since 1980s - and no one here watch them, theatres are empty when eastern european movies are on, and that is for a reason. great directors would present hard themes and drama in their movies with a way to satisify both common viewer and limits of what is whatchable. to simply show how things are is not hard at all, anyone can film movies like that. also, apart from director, anyone can be actor if he or she screams around and curse and is being hysterical. how hard can that be? the masterwork is to make unwatchable stuff attractive enough for a movie. unfortunately, lately hollywood movies are more like cheap eastern european movies than great hollywood movies that were in the past when censors unwittingly contributed to making them great and watchable.

I find it funny how some posters thinks the OP was talking about the Arnold Schwarzenegger film, True Lies.
AS for the film itself. I made it to the end, but overall it wasn't very entertaining.
                                        Still, not "walk out" worthy.
