Burton's Addams Family and Wednesday is harkening back to the original Addams filmstrip.
First, people were all in a huff because Gomez was played by someone Hispanic. Hellooooo? "Gomez?"
Second, people were all in a huff over how Gomez looks.
Tim Burton is actually paying homage to the original.

I know, right? Isn't Gomez supposed to be hot?
I'm thinking someone like Antonio Banderas.
After some research, the creator's original version of Gomez was short and stout, a look that has been honoured in the recent animated depictions.
I much prefer the "Raul Julia" version of the character, though.
