I only watched the first episode, and will likely watch the whole season, but it was a little… meh. Not awful, but not great either. It was a little anti-climactic There's no suspense or build up and then when the **** hits the fans, it's a little amateur. Borderline cartoony. It feels B-grade, so far.
It has some typical prequel problems too. It looks too advanced. The tech doesn't match up. Messes with the mythology/lore too. For example, there's now multiple types of artificial humanoids:
Synths: Think Ash, Bishop, or David.
Cyborgs: Enhanced humans. People with robot parts.
Hybrids: Humans who has have their minds uploaded to a synths.
This stuff is clearly more advanced than the old movies. It's fine for a sequel, but shouldn't be in a prequel. Studios can't seem to resist it.
Hawley seems to think throw in a bunch of sound effects, similar outfits, and old looking computers makes it feel "Alien", which it does not (totally).
The lead is cute and endearing. She could save it for me. -

It might not be the intellectual "Juggernaut" like Prometheus was to some Kuato but, one more episode in than you, I think it shows promise
It certainly has something of the anime/cartoon veneer you mentioned to it and I don't think that it will ditch it either. I think we're going down a Ghost in the Machine/Akira route storywise and it doesn't try to hide it. How that will work in a xenomorph story I'm not so sure, but the xenomorph could just be filler for a story about AI, identity and what 'alien' means to everyone who isn't you
We'll see about the production values when it comes to comparing space technologies with those on Earth. I always gave Alien and its successors a bit of a wide berth when it came to critiquing what was presented as computers. Deep space might have other factors which could interfere with how technology should operate normally, hence the odd aesthetic. But there's already been (Episode 2) a tablet computer which looks a bit bulky compared to something now - might be explainable or it could just be of 'that universe'.
The lead is cute, but remember she's about ten years old in her head. Cool character stuff but right on the edge of questionable content with what they could have her achieve. Again, 'alien' as a human concept rather than a xenomorph.
I don't think I'll enjoy waiting for each episode to come out to present the story as a whole. But I reckon it'll take a couple of turns and pull the rug out from under us a couple of times before hopefully wrapping up and concluding as a story
