Canceling isn't forcing anything. It's basically a boycott, and companies or groups not platforming or including the person in their group or company.
Whether that's a good or bad thing depends on context.
I mean, that's the case for anyone. Some people, regardless of position, don't want to associate with certain people because of things they have said and done.
Why does it matter whether one group or another would cancel me? There are people on the left who probably would.
There are also some, especially what gets called "the dirtbag left", who don't take offensive humor seriously and wouldn't give a ****. Check out Cumtown and Chapo Trap House.
Also, more likely than not, it would be liberals, bot leftists canceling me. What exactly was the point of saying I could get canceled again?

Nobody is arguing that cancel culture is new.
They are complaining that companies and governments are pandering to online pressure groups (the woke) to cancel people due to their overbearing desire to police language and control behaviour.
Budweiser was a customer revolt. Nothing to do with cancel culture

They argue that it's a woke/lib/lefty thing to do, and yes, they act like it's worse now. In almost every comment section of a movie with something a litke outdated, some dipshit is like, "You couldn't get away with this is today's woke culture."
I'm mostly familiar with the my own country and in the US, the government is not policing language. It's companies not associating with people due to something they did, and rhat is exactly what happened to Ellen and the Doxie Chicks. No one complained about cancel culture then. The same kinds of people who bitch about it today certainly didn't. The only reason is because progressiveness is gaining a little more power than they used to have, and the conservative establishment is tightening their grip and playing the victim.

At the moment, it is a leftist thing. Because the left dominate social media. That’s where the social power of influence is at present.
The American right had this power post 9/11 due to cable TV and talk radio.
And people on the left did complain about that influence - they said it was fear mongering
All the culturally influence comes from the left right now. That’s why it is critiqued by the left (like me) and the right

Not all of it. Forgot to address your comment about Budweiser. What distinguishes a customer boycott from canceling? Is a boycott not meant to pressure companies into doing what the group wants?
Also, how much of the cancelation has really stuck? Dave Chappelle and Louis CK still have comedy shows. I can't really think of many examples of any of it sticking.

investors and busnisesses are free to put/pull their money at any time; so when advertisers decide to yank support, the decision could rest entirely on a profit calculus and absolutely nothing to do with any "political" awareness or concern.
and if a company underwrites entirely a production, then that company has an absolute say in the content; and if the end product gets altered w/o approval, then time for penalties.
people "vote" with their feet and cash all the time. you like something, u remain. it tastes like rancid vinegar, you exit. the problem is modern connectivity now force multiplies outrage, both real and concocted. this has made the whole thing ludicrously schoolyard level revenge -

I mean, you're not wrong to an extent when it comes to things like boycotts of companies and things like that, but it's a different thing when they try to doxx and get fired regular Americans. For instance, there was that dude who showed up at College GameDay and held a sign in the background that said "Need money for Busch Light. Venmo me at…" and he included his Venmo account. It was a joke and he was a college kid, well it just so happened he got over $1mil in donations in a day, which is life changing money, especially for a college kid, yet he took all of that money and donated it to a children's hospital. Because of his good deed Busch Light contacted him to do some advertising promotions with them, until a piece of **** leftist put out an article about the dude, they said they did a routine social media check and dug up a racist Tosh.0 joke he posted years and years ago and accused the dude of being racist. Busch Light immediately dropped him and dude was smeared nation wide all because he did a good deed. That's the evils of cancel culture.
