Meredith Eaton has joined the cast of the CBS action-adventure drama MACGYVER as a series regular. Eaton will portray Matty Webber, the new director of operations at the Phoenix Foundation. Mac (Lucas Till) and the team, with the exception of Jack (George Eads), are excited to meet their new boss, who is known as a legend in Covert Ops. As Jacks superior for 18 months while on assignment in South America, Matty could make anyone, including the director of the NSA, cry. Eatons first episode is scheduled to air Friday, Jan. 13.
We couldnt be more excited to have Meredith Eaton join the cast of MACGYVER, said executive producer and showrunner Peter Lenkov. Matty Webber is a tough cookie and, despite her history with Jack, shell have no problem finding her place in the Phoenix team. She may even teach Mac a few new tricks.
Eaton is perhaps best known for her recurring role on the series Boston Legal. Her breakthrough acting opportunity came at an open casting call for the feature film Unconditional Love after she auditioned against 500 women from the U.S., Canada and the U.K., and landed the leading role. Her additional television credits include a series regular role in Family Law, recurring roles on Battle Creek and NCIS, and guest starring roles on NCIS: New Orleans and Without a Trace, all on the Network. In 2015 Eaton starred in the second installment of the three-part television movie Turks & Caicos. Also, she has guest starred on House and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. -

Thorton was painful to watch. One demensional; wooden, and boring. What a genius idea to bring on the talented and seasoned actress Meredith Eaton. I am a fan and excited to see what she will bring to the show.

If you'll recall, MacG 'encoded' the message sent to Thornton prior to her showing up to arrest the double-agent. Since the two have been together for quite some time in the espionage business, I suspect Thornton being arrested was part of the plot to expose the treasonous insider.
The question asked is, "Is the person antagonistic towards Thornton, MacGyver or the organization?
Is it the Devil in the whiskey, or is it the Devil in him? ???

Matty Webber is the reboots version of "Matt Webber", another character from the old "MacGyver". He was in the episode "Early Retirement" (season 3?). He was basically responsible for Pete resigning. I wouldn't be surprised if the basics of this storyline are not all that different from the old episode "Early Retirement".
So far Riley and Sarah Adler are the only 2 (at least recurring) characters in the reboot that are not in the 1985-1992 version.

This is probably the last post that I will get to make on this since someone took a bottle of stupid pills and decided to get rid of the boards.
I do not like the character played by Meredith Eaton. There are a lot of people who have worked for a living who have had a boss like her. One who rules by intimidation and belittling their subordinates and goes out of their way to remind the staff that who is boss and the peons serve at their pleasure. She is creating a very hostile work environment. Please try again. -

I think she's trying to figure out if these guys are "Thornton's team" or "Phoenix's team". In old series "Matt Webber" was a bad guy - took over Pete's job after forcing him into early retirement. Whether this "Matti Webber" is a bad guy or a good guy I think she needs to know what side Thornton's go to team is on. She knows Jack but she doesn't know the others. She's not trying to rule through intimidation or belittling, she's just trying to get the upper hand and figure them out. She actually admitted to Mac that she has some respect for Jack because she understands the way he works. She's giving Mac the chance to prove his way works. She actually showed respect to Bozer for having the guts to go to her when he felt he had information that could make a difference. She's giving Riley a chance, and with her background most wouldn't.

Not trying to be rude to be fair I've only seen her character for a few seconds and maybe in time it might be change but I just couldn't take her serious as a boss. And your really telling me jack dated her? Does he date any female coworker?

I completely agree! She is ruining the show for me and I really liked it before. If this Matty character continues this show will be finished! Her acting is horrible and she is abrasive and doesn't fit in.

I thought her first scene with the team last episode was really awkward. It was so awkward that it took me out of the show and you felt like these were all actors saying lines to each other instead of me buying into the make believe that they were characters.
It might just be that it was her first day on set and she hasn't gotten down her dynamic with the cast yet. But so far it is looking bad.
I liked Sandrine Holt as Thornton. She came off very wooden and cold but that was the character. She is supposed to be this stern take-no-sht ice queen. -

Sandrine Holt was the reason I started watching this show in the first place. I was never a fan of the original series but the cast (minus MacGyver, ironically, and his room mate friend) have kept me watching. I'm not sure will be able to put up with the new boss. Time will tell.

I still find myself wondering if its coincidence that she has the female name of the guy (Matt Webber) from the original series who framed Pete Thornton and got him thrown out of Phoenix or is it foreshadowing of a future plot.
