Did anyone else have a problem with believing certain aspects of the show? Like the fact that Roper would trust Pine seemed sooo unbelievable to me, I thought Corky would come back in the last episode (we never saw him buried, and one of Roper's men checked the pulse) with a massive "I told you so" smirk.
I understand that maybe in the novel it was told in some believable way. I also understand there's a tvtrope article called 'Idiot ball' which says the baddie needs to be an idiot in some aspect in order for the plot to move forward. My problem was that it just seemed SO unlikely (you hire a new guy, and immediately information gets leaked. You suspect your long term girlfriend or loyal best friend!?) I could no longer focus on the plot. -

Yeah, the show definitely requires some lazy thinking to keep watching.
I couldn't get past the son losing his phone and it's no big deal. Like not even canceling the service or seeing if it is being used.
After all the "new guy" is still too new to trust. -

Yes, I agree but, there are some small things that help bring Corky down. 1st, before Pine was trying to get over on Roper, he met him at the Hotel and Roper genuinely liked him. Then Pine is recruited and now Roper should be suspicious, but had no reason with his first impression. 2. Maybe this next one was more in the book but Corky started being insecure and shooting himself in the foot by acting out. Pine told Roper that Corky reminded him of his dad, who Roper knows died in Belfast and Pine says it's because his dad was waiting for a whore while drunk, and Corky is just like that, thus a liability. Last Jed sets Corky up, Pine tells her to. These 3 things help but I do agree, strange Roper just accepted him because he saved his son.
Another things, Jed was looking for dirt on him, remember the blonde hair in the study? So Roper being paranoid about his gf and bf is not too out of the question.
