Compulsory military service

Most of Europe requires it's citizens to do compulsory military service so did you ever participate in that or did a note from your mother clear you to stay at home on her couch and skip doing your duty?
As an American I find this a novel concept. I mean, someone like azn2 defending her country against communist incursions? Too funny.

I think it’s weird America doesn’t do this. Idk if I’m in favor of it but given how important our military is to the economy. Our military is critical both to military contractors and for exerting American power abroad to broker economically advantageous deals. It’s strange to me this wasn’t made regular since WW2.
