Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Red Dead Redemption

I bought this game last week after my friend kept telling me it's awesome. I loved GTA, so I finally decided to give it a shot and I bought the Game of the year edition (including Dead Nightmare and multiplayer). So I started playing, got my first horse and did some missions. I noticed there were a lot of different horse breeds/colors, so I decided to look up the best horse on the net. Found out it was the War Horse, which was dark with light manes. This is exactly the horse I was given at the start. Anybody else had this? Cause on all sites it says the War Horse is only available as DLC or with special codes. And here I got it without doing anything for it. So tell me guys, anybody else had this?!

Not sure, maybe it's a perk of buying the GOTY edition? I got it on launch day as DLC (along with a few other bits and pieces) becuase I pre-ordered. It's a great horse.
      What is up homie?

the game of the year edition comes with all the DLC.
so you start with the war horse. but when it dies or you replace it you need to wait untill you buy it again.

I don't think that's correct. I have the DLC and I didn't have to buy the horse a second time. I just went into my inventory and selected the War Horse item.

It was most likely included in your GOTY edition.

                Yep, GOTYR edition.
Having it at the start of the game was ok with me. There's already too much riding in the game, I don't really care about horses, and I just found myself wanting to get from point A to point B as fast as possible. I appreciate the game's attempt to do with horses what GTA does with cars with all the variety, etc., but I really didn't find myself caring about that. So I actually liked having the best horse from the start.

Too much riding? Seriously? That was some of the best time spent in the game. Christ, some people would kill themselves if they weren't given everything right away. I would love to see you last in 1913.

I realize it doesn't matter, being that apparently we read and post in this thread once a year. But I finally read your response, and I just have to say:
LMAO. Yes, I wouldn't last in 1913 and I clearly expect everything to be given to me right away because I think a 2010 video game has too much horse riding in it.
