Are MAGA Republicans a threat to democracy?

You don't want to romanticize the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc. Pretty much nothing good came out of it, and a lot of bad. Tens of millions killed by Stalin's regime.
And we didn't even really beat it – it pretty much collapsed on its own, given its own internal contradictions and inefficiencies.
It was a nice dream, corrupted and twisted by very fallible men. -

It mostly did start with Clinton. That was when the right-wing media started to develop, initiated by the success of that fat hatemonger Rush Limbaugh, and they began to brainwash the public to hate anyone not a republican. Hillary Clinton was their first victim.

She wanted to give people in this country access to affordable health care and then the corporate interests that control the republican party told the politicians and media they own to turn their braindead base against her. Ever since they have mindlessly repeated that Hillary is "evil", all because she wanted to help sick people. Reality is republicans are the evil ones for wanting sick people to suffer and die.

Her real sins were being not very charismatic or relatable and being openly ambitious. That was enough for many to hate her. -

But since you did, my honest answer is he needs to go away. Go spend the rest of his years playing golf, sitting on the solid gold toilet, whatever. He lost; it's over; on to the next.
