Weird Netflix documentary about a fertility doctor who impregnated several women with his own sperm (instead of anonymous donor sperm). Raises odd ethical issues. Was it rape? Why would someone want to do a thing like this? Apparently, because of DNA inheritance kits, 44 other doctors have been found guilty of doing the same thing. I mean, why would a doctor jerk off into a test tube and then inseminate a woman who trusted him? Are these guys insane? They believe they are members of the master race and want to shape humanity in their image?

I just watched this too.
It was very weird that they were unable to pin him down to any particular crime. Also hard to process his being a church elder and a fertility doctor.
The suggestion was that he was trying to create his own blue eyed/blonde race but I'm not sure that even begins to cover it. -

They tried hard to make it look like rape, but most judges would think this a bit of a stretch. They could have gotten him for dereliction of duty but that would probably only lead to him being prevented from practicing as a doctor. It's a curiously archaic crime: he wanted his potency as a man to be demonstrated????

It's very tricky that is for sure, the insemination was consented to but not the sample itself. I'm sure the women feel violated now that they know, justifiably so, but at the time maybe not.
Maybe fraud?
Kudos to the first girl, she was tenacious and feisty and stood up to him as he was whining over his marriage being ruined.
The scene with him meeting some of his offspring making notes as to what they had achieved was a tad disturbing.
Another question would be why were there so many infertile men in that area? -

My mom was watching that! I love those sorts of docs and got a little sucked in but didn't get to see the beginning or end yet. Looks very titillating!
I remember watching an episode of law and order svu, and an episode of the blacklist, that were really similar to that scenario and thinking it could never really happen lol -

In both episodes the men committing these questionable acts were portrayed as psychopaths that had god complexes.
I think you'd have to be to do that.
But the part of the doc I saw, the guy was saying that he only did it out of desperation because he didn't have donors. That's a lot less compelling. Just laziness lol -
