He denies it (he would, though). He claims Doodle et al phoned his campaign office and sent e-mails that destroyed his rep. Mind you, I think a serious political candidate should avoid message boards, but then look at Trump! The guy is like MMC2 and Pagg and Miley rolled into one and a lot of Americans believed he was the Second Coming!

People have a right to know who their elected officials are. Politicians are chosen on character. If someone has a dark past that is politically damaging, that is on them, not the person who exposes it.

I can't say for certain, but there is enough scandal in Shredder's past that no one would have to make anything up to damage him politically.
