- I am not THAT self-deluded. But I have read a decent amount on the post-Soviet state and Putin's take on Hilary.
- 'To the confusion of our enemies' - Robert Oppenheimer. it's pretty clear that the Russians saw Trump as a dividing and divisive force, a polarizing charlatan. It was in their interest to sow confusion. It's the same principle as behind their cyber attacks and misinformation campaigns in the West over the last few years (and yes, the Chinese state does that too).
NATO, that's a funny one - Obama's Administration was also pushing western allies to increase the percentage of GDP that they spent on their military. But it is true that Trump was louder about it, and probably got a bit more done there, got those countries to spend more on the military. (He also apparently and famously didn't understand how NATO worked - it's not really like a country club that you 'pay into', but no matter…).
Probably cancelled out the effectiveness for democracy however by his cozying up to every illiberal tyrant out there - he never met a strongman he didn't like.

I have no idea what books you've read, but even if they were written by Putin himself, I wouldn't trust that they were true. That's not to say they can't be true, by accident, only that we'd be foolish to think that Putin's actual thoughts on anything are published anywhere.
Did you check out Yuri Bezmenov? You'd find him interesting. Very much in line with your Oppenheimer quote.
Trump stands against identity politics. He stands against division. You see that as an insane perspective on my part, but that's because you think appeasing everyone is a virtue, you think insisting a country unites around one culture and one vision, is divisive. The facts are there, if you take off your anti-Trump glasses.
The fundamental principle of collaboration is a shared vision. People cannot be united while they are pulling in different directions. The Dems - even more so had Hillary won against her "deplorables" - are the party of division. -

What's stopping you crossing the line? Do you believe that the world is currently safe in the hands of Democrats? If not, which Republican did you think would have the conviction and determination to take the fight to them?
Can I also ask a more fundamental question? Do you believe that the west has been subverted by communism? If not, how do you explain the current state of our institutions, culture, and arts? Why is "far left" not even a term used by the establishment anymore, while everything not left wing is labelled "alt" or "far" right? Socialists label themselves centrists and seemingly have no clue about what the political spectrum looks like. They don't even know there's another axis, with authoritarianism at one end and liberty at the other. -

On the communism issue, no, not really thinking it's infiltrated broadly, but that's also because I am old enough to remember the Soviet Bloc and that real existential threat.
I am more concerned about left-wing and right-wing populism everywhere that offers up simplistic and false solutions to what are often complex problems. They're attractive because they are readily understandable solutions, and because self-centered and elitist eggheads have in the past offered disastrous but complicated rationales for bad approaches (Vietnam, Iraq, 2008 financial meltdown), and that's led to a general distrust of policymakers and politicians with complicated narratives.
With Trump, sorry but I am old enough to remember that piece of **** in the 90s. This was equivalent to the boorish guy you would meet at a golf club who wouldn't shut up about himself. I didn't think he could manage his way out of a wet paper bag, and sadly, he proved me right. That's why I gravitated to my friend Jared here - not necessarily for political reasons but because I thought that that family would be in hot water from Day One, and they were.
btw I got a PM but couldn't respond. All good. -

Again, if you don't think we've been subverted, I strongly recommend watching Yuri Bezmenov, in the 80s, tell us how it would happen.
The problem may be too complex to fix. Like a knot on a fishing line, sometimes you have to start again. Trump was a blunt instrument, but necessary, in my opinion.
Ironically, he was a useful idiot, but instead of helping progress communism, he was utilized by those who recognized that the left has gone too far.
The longer we put off tackling the spectre of far left authoritarianism, the bigger the strongman we'll need. -

It was also in their interest to weaken America. Trump made America stronger. Hillary would have made it weaker.

The greatest success of the Leftist Propaganda Industry has been convincing a large segment of the general public that Trump and Putin were collaborators. The idea is absurd.
Nearly all of the federal agencies in the U.S. were corrupted during the Obama administration and remain a cesspool of liberalism today. Because of it, the U.S. Intelligence Agency has about as much credibility as the FSB (Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation).
Trump was just as much a wild card to Putin as he was to America and was able to curtail the Russian's ambitions to some extent during the four years he was in office.
How anyone can seriously think that Trump's America First policies, the building of the southern wall, sanctions against Iran and Russia, rebuilding the U.S. military and strengthening NATO were a benefit to Putin?
As for President Biden, Putin knows he suffers from some form of dementia and is incapable of dealing on a rational level.
The Russians, Iranians, Chinese and North Koreans are singing arias in their showers at the certainly of a seriously weakened U.S. under the Biden administration.

Double fake. They watched the democrats wring their hands over it for 4 years. So they launched some ham handed attempts this time wanting to be caught. They WANT Trump gone. The democrats of course couldn't lap that **** up fast enough. It's a miracle Putin is still alive. Anyone else would have died laughing.

Very likely. I heard that as many as 68 countries interfered with the 2020 election, but China gets the prize for most of the interference.
