I am aware of such domestic arrangements. I have to drive past somewhere like that on my way to the office.
I'm just not sure the bathroom in those places ever gets called a restroom. That makes it sound public. It adds a layer of tragedy to your story.
I hope your living conditions improve soon and you get a bathroom.
