Really don't get the praise for this film

While not original or new, b monster movies with decent acting and special effects are few and far between. So they shine in comparison, especially to those of us that love monster movies.

I thought the above-average effects and acting made up for the unoriginal script. I was surprised by how well designed the grabbers actually were!

I don't get the praise, either. I came here expecting a rating between 3 and 4, but 6.2?! The visual effects are surprisingly good, but that's it. The movie is boring, not funny, and it seems to take itself a bit too seriously. One of the two main characters is a drunkard for no apparent reason, and the other feels romantically interested in him, for no apparent reason, either. It is not even in the so-bad-it's-good category. It's just bad.

He's Irish. The Irish don't need a reason to be drunkards. I've a lot of that blood coursing through my veins so I understand that aspect. Outside of that one little criticism, I wholeheartedly agree with the rest of your critique. This movie was disappointing. -

Yeah, no such thing as a social drinker in the celtic lands, we have social sobers instead.
"You're sober at this time of day, father?"
"I don't touch the stuff on a sunday, now could you get your car out of the church. You're on top of Mrs Henderson."
"Is that a car? I wondred why the feeling in my feet went."
