They new exactly what they were. That's the point of the movie. They knew that medical tanning booths existed, that rich people had them, that they needed to be implanted with fake citizenship for it to work on them, that they needed to get to one, and that it took a minute or so to heal.
They new the whole deal going down.
And it did solve alot of problems. Wait until you lose your health and get back to us about thattell us all how your being cured of your eventual illness really doesn't help solve the world's problems so there's no real point to trying to cure you. Might as well let you die and there will be more resources for the rest of us.
How does that sound to you? Either everybody matters, or nobody matters.

I did lose my health insurance, as a result of the ACA and went more then a year without the meds that were controlling my blood pressure. When I did get insurance, it's the worst I've ever seen, very few clinics honor it, and those that do employ quacks who want to re-diagnose me and run tests just to prescribe crap that doesn't work, but hey, the whole ACA thing wasn't about anything more than greasing the palms of the health care insurance monopolies, so why don't you take your condescending BS and stick it right up in some shady place.

          Jesus Christ.
So you've got stumblebums for your governor and legislators. It isn't that beep up in a lot of other places in the US.
Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face generally isn't a good deal.

Better yet.. why are there thousands of med-beds already loaded onto shuttles?
Are there incidences where mass casualties occur in utopia?
and we're expect to believe that these seemingly abundant med-beds, which were already loaded into transport shuttles, are being hoarded by Elysiums.. because?
That the Earth-based people can't pool their resources and buy at least ONE med-beds? Cuz clearly there are factories on earth so some trade is happening.

So the shuttles land on Earth and the people they treat are still "illegal immigrants" in their own city as far as you're concerned. Interesting perspective!

                    FREE

So. Any comment to make on the massive problem of overpopulation that will only get far worse with this perfect free health care up to the point that nobody will be able to survive because the planet has been destroyed?

Unless you are one of the ones on Earth dying from some disease or affliction. Then for you, his death DID solve a problem.
It solved YOUR problem. And the problems of a lot of other dying, sick people.
As for the overall arc of problem-solving, who can say? Sure, you could make the argument that now they'll be even more overpopulation on Earth, but Elysium's solution of washing their hands of it and running away certainly didn't solve anything.
Can't just ignore problems, no matter how big or annoying they are. They'll just keep growing until they become YOUR problem, no matter who you are.

Wow, you really have no idea. Why should the 1% who got wealthy on the backs of everyone else, have access to the best of everything, also at our expense. If the world is overpopulated, why can't. EVERYONE have access to an Elysium? I bet the wealthy will never stop having children, so why should everyone else? And why, just because people are poor, do the words 'free beer' make them flock'? You might do anything for a drink, but don't taint everyone else by your standards.
This film at its heart is about immigration and how the 1% get everything while the rest of us suffer. If YOU believe someone wealthy's life is more valuable than yours, or mine, then you need to watch the news more. What would you suggest, a cull?
