End of movie, End of planet?

Anybody else here sees the end as misunderstood and a very dystopian future? By "freeing" the medical capacities of Elysium for the whole planet and sending them to Earth, one of two things have to happen :
a) There are enough such medevac crafts for the whole planet. Nobody dies anymore, and the already overcrowded and overexploited planet is in real trouble by sheer number of people. (Is there a point where the population can kill the atmosphere simply by being too many exhaling CO2? )
b) There are only medevac crafts for "modern Los Angeles". This leads to immediate war amongst all people not in the city, as everybody has the will to survive to get through to these machines?
Just my two cents on this, what some see as "left-wing" or "libertarian" is in my eyes actually the beginning of an apocalypse. -

Yeah it's a pretty simple film, and by itself there's no perfect happy ending. There would still need to be massive reform on Earth, and as you say if no one dies, and people continue to still give birth, the planet will struggle.

Those med beds cure illness, they don't make people immortal. There were hospitals at the time on earth, it's just that the rich had advanced technology on Elysium. They may have prolonged their lives by a certain amount, but I don't remember their saying anything about not dying.

I took that as an idea of how long lived elysium people are. -

Yeah, it was mentioned that they could "live forever".
They not only cure illness, they completely revive the dead. That District 9 dork got his entire face blown off. So that means the beds can create extremely complex DNA specific organic matter on ANY BED. Like new eyes, nose, teeth, tongue, everything, and tie that into the nervous system so it works as a whole again, not to mention reviving the stopped heart after he's been dead for at least 20 minutes So we go beyond organic matter, we actually have machines capable of repairing the once touted 'irreparable brain damage' that occurs without oxygen. It must literally rebind receptors and connections in the brain that were damaged in that time. A seemingly impossible task in any future unless you can upload your consciousness onto a server that is stored and built if the brain is destroyed. Also even if you could somehow magically remove all cancerous cells from a person you still have to treat the underlying cause or it will just be right back. Leukemia is more than just bad luck, it's a deficiency or disorder in the body that smarter people than me know more about, I really have trouble believing that waving a magic wand above a person is capable of this anytime in the future, ever.
Take your thinking cap off and it's not a bad movie, if you don't mind the heavy handed left swinging dick dangling in your face the whole time. -

The grenade didn't kill him. It blew his face off but he was still alive and breathing hoarsely (you can hear him breathing as they are carting him, and they even talk about his brain still functioning and he just needed his face replaced to survive). I don't think the machine can bring someone back from the dead but it seems to be able to do damn near everything else. As far as the magic wand curing cancer Keep in mind the movie takes place over a 100 years in the future. I'd imagine the people of 1880 also thought a lot of our current tech was impossible.

And also, maybe I missed something, but didn't some chick break into a home and put her kid in a med-bed and healed her up? But in the end, when the Leukemia chick was on a med-bed, she had to wait until Jason Bourne made her a citizen?

Your mistake is in expecting some kind of chain of plausible reasoning to occur.
The intended message of the film is entirely different: that it all becomes one big Utopia. It was just that nasty chauvinism that was preventing heaven on Earth, not stuff like living within the carrying capacity of the planet. -

Agreed. This was one of the worst endings I have seen for a movie.
I initially loved the film for pointing out the massive problem of overpopulation. But then it ends with 'yay! free perfect healthcare for everyone!'
Like that doesn't make the underlying problem of overpopulation only far worse.
