I agree, there is far too much "sequel baiting" nowadays, there is nothing wrong with a good solid film on its own with no prequel/sequel nonsense. A good script, good cinematography and solid acting is all thats needed, most of my film collection is not series of films but individual ones.
I saw this film at the cinema as I love scifi, the aliens were interesting, i wanted to know if they had a clever reason for harvesting brains, the total loss of military effectiveness was interesting (no more independence days please). It had a lot going for it but I felt really cheated when it went slow mo at the end and credits started showing without any of my questions being answered. It was a real wtf moment.
This film, Battle Los Angeles, and Battleship are why you should let the geeks make scifi not the studio producers and their money men 😞

Very little info is available yet, but the info is listed right here on IMDb for Skyline 2 - in development. No, it did not come out in 2012 as someone had originally thought/announced, but I'm guessing that it will be out in 2014 (but that is only my guess - nothing official).
I liked the first movie and I will watch the sequel - not to complete the first movie; I personally was satisfied with it, but I will watch it in the hope that it's at least as good as the first. Personally, I enjoyed the work of Eric Balfour and Donald Faison and I won't put down the work of the women, I just wasn't overly impressed.

The movie didn't bomb, it was a huge success. Made for $10-20 million, it made over $70 million.

Interesting I had thought it was a bomb, but your words seem to come from Wikipedia, which said the exact same thing. I'm surprised. However, another search reveals some more info from giantfreakingrobot.com:
"Produced on a small budget, Skyline did in fact make money, but not a ton. It barely doubled its $10 million budget at home, racking up $21 million domestically (it did earn $66 million in total, which is why were getting this sequel). Though it covered expenses, it wasnt exactly a hit, and it was one of the worst reviewed movies of the year"

Yeah, it ended up making most of its money ($50 million) overseas.

It did have an ending. The aliens win and we lose.
People that think this movie sucks is the fact it didn't use the stereotypically cheap crap Hollywood "humans beat the aliens by destroying either the mothership or some device," that controls every attacking alien. What kind of alien force would have a military that is just controlled through one central hub and forces that can't think for themselves? Battleground: Los Angeles, Battleship, and The Avengers used this cheap cop out ending.

I have to permanently disagree with you, Dr. B~
When I go to see a sci-fi flick, it's for pure escapismup to and including a stereotypical happy ending. If I want to see an unhappy ending, all I have to do is stay home and watch the first five minutes of the 6PM news! And, if the writers want to depict real-world gloom and doom, let them do a documentary!!

Alien Movie / "real-world gloom and doom"
I think that you're forgetting that this is a fictional alien movie, not the news.

It was the ending, or lack thereof. It was going fine until it just stopped, just when it was beginning to build up to something. It makes me wonder if Damon Lindelof was involved in the ending.

The first part is second rate, it's surprisingly good if you stick with it.

It was one of the worst films I have ever seen, the acting was alright, but somewhat resembling 90210, the characters were for the most part unlikable, and they were trying so hard to make it cool that it just failed, the premise was almost a complete ripoff of the game Prey (seriously, in the game the aliens appear and just beam up massive numbers of people in order to harvest organic material, which makes a LOT more sense than them wanting our brains, which just feels like it came straight from a bad 70's alien conspiracy theory/invasion movie). The writing (everything from setting, to dialogue, was dodgy, I would have to rewatch to give specific examples. I think the only part of the film I DID like was the drone attack sequence, and that was about it.

                            It was the best ending.
Not only did - at last - the humans not win - which might be only a second of any invasion movie - but there was a question mark. What a kick-alien ending.
Two best devices for a genre (as they call it) movie.
The odd clunky bit or two (like: They are really pissed off) are easily forgiven for one of the most awe-inspiring movies made, rising above any drivitive aspect.

Nice attempt but it almost seemed like it tried to be the alien invasion version of Cloverfield.
The movie was so bad though the aliens left and refused to take part in the sequel.

You must be extremely easy to please. A friend and I went to see this diabolical movie after viewing a seemingly interesting preview. What a waste of money and time. The audience booed, jeered and ridiculed this film as the credits rolled up, an experience unfamiliar to me but wow, so justified!
