Umm, in case you missed it, it cost 10 mil and grossed 80. That's 80 at the box office and does not include rentals and NetFlix and the admittedly relatively limited DVD sales. Point being it was far from a commercial failure.
As to the claim it's garbage, really? In a world of excellent movies and high standards, maybe. In our world of reality TV and stupid comedies? It's not a bad effort at all.

I want a sequel too. The Matrix was a great movie, took a few years and two sequels to have a complete ending to the storyline. This movie is in the same situation as District 9. Hero becomes alien, alien still loves significant other, some time is needed before everything ends ok for them. Bring on Skyline 2 and District 10 (or District 9 part 2).

- The film was NOT utter garbage. 2. It was NOT a commercial failure. It made back three times its budget (U.S. and Internationally). 3. Jarrod's brain/consciousness is obviously alive inside the alien at the end of the movie which might suggest that this happened to more humans around the globe. If they are consciously aware of their 'new' surroundings, they could possibly take over each ship that they inhabit. I, too, want Skyline 2 so much!!!

While I didn't think much of the movie, it did gross between 8 and 9 times production budget (including dvd sales), so you would think the shirts would have already greenlighted a sequel.
Update: checking IMDB, it seems it's in the early stages of development. -
