Considering the excellent CGI and some nice mayhem involved (crashing hellicopters) are we to believe this was all done with a 10 million budget?
I know the actors are hardly even B-list ones, but what would be left to pay actors, crew etc?
IMHO:
This could have been fun with the excellent Bug-eyed monsters straight out of a thirties pulp magazine, but unfortunately this is one square flick. Come to think of it, it could have been hilarious!! The tacked-on ending is also no recommendation -

From reading about it, the filming budget was $500k, so presumably the actors were paid with part of that. None of the actors are big names and there aren't many, so its not hard to believe that $500k was enough for their salaries plus filming costs.
