I am so sick of movies about born-again white men delivering 'justice'

You have a thing against true stories?
Uhh,
Patch Adams
was "based on a true story".
Radio
was "based on a true story."
The Rookie
was "based on a true story".
Walking Tall
was "based on a true story". Were any of them good movies? In short, no.
So what's your logic? If a movie is "based on a true story", no matter how exaggerated, then it's automatically good? Wow.
What is poisoning anyone's minds exactly?
The concept that black people can't survive without a jingoistic, born-again white man holding their hands. That is racist, imperialist and above all
wrong
.
You obviously have issues with white men regarded as heroes.
Well. I take it, then, that you feel threatened by my posts because you are white and because you're afraid of your oh-so-victimized white race being discredited even in the least.
Now it's WHITE AUDIENCES!
Exactly. If manipulated enough, a mass white audience will totally embrace a self-congratulatory movie that gives thanks to them for being the superior race: the one that, you know, takes care of those poor black people because according to them to quote a Sterling Silliphant screenplay black people need care, and feeding, and cultivatingand that takes time. Yes, I pity those naive white audiences (yourself included).
Oh, and you still don't have to watch the movie or listen to such stories of heroics either.
The point of film criticism is to rip apart even the most evil of movies. If you disagree, then it's a wonder you post on the IMDB at all.

Did you piss and moan when those movies were about to be released, too?
I was offended by them, yes. And so were millions of others especially by
Patch Adams
. Where've you
been
, fool?
That you have animosities and issues against white men and their stories of heroism. Think before you type.
So you don't think there's anything wrong with glorifying a born-again white man who kills in the name of Christianity while all the other people in the movie (i.e. black people) are reduced to victims and villains? I hate to break it to you, but that's how Social Darwinism comes about.
Nonsense. No one said they couldn't survive without a white man. He's just there to help.
Oh, really? And you think black audiences will embrace this movie just as much as the gullible whites do?
This is about a movie based on a true story.
Who CARES?
Mississippi Burning
was supposedly based on a true story as well, and look how black audiences reacted to that movie. Even Coretta Scott King decried it as another one of those movies where blacks couldn't get along without the reactionary assistance of a whites. Have you any idea how inferior that makes the black race look?
What's superior about just helping people, regardless of race?
Except the guy in this movie is not just "helping" people. He's killing in the name of Christianity. That's disgusting.
By the way you don't understand. There are two kinds of movies about "whites helping others": one about a white man with an overinflated ego; another in which the white man/woman is practically hero-worshipped. In the former, we've gotten some of the best movies ever made Lean's
Lawrence of Arabia
, for example. In the latter, we've gotten some truly offensive movies like
Mississippi Burning, The Help
and
Sergeant York
.
Ask yourself: if you were a black man/woman, do you think you'd like a movie like
Machine Gun Preacher
as much as a white person? You honestly wouldn't have a problem with a movie being made in which the essential message is that your race couldn't get along without a supposedly "Christian" white man holding your hand?

Wow! Until I read your post, honestly the thought that he was a white person who saved the day never crossed my mind until now, my thoughts on MGP was he was a man, human you get my point. I do have alot of friends who are brothers and they feel the same. Just a good movie, and if Chillders was a black man, i'd feel the same.
Except one guy, and he is racist He basically has the same opinion as you.. and he's Mexican. -

Sois this your way of saying that white people aren't allowed to help black people in need as far as cinema goes? For someone who seems so concerned about racism, you sure don't seem to want to get rid of it. As long as stupid BS like this is such a big deal to people, racism will be kept alive.

I wouldn't care if he was purple or green - Sam Childers has made a difference in the lives of hundreds of children that no one else was helping.
There are many agencies like his all over the world. The fact is that the developed world has resources and in the third world, people, particularly children, are being brutalized. Do we just stand by and do nothing because we are afraid of seeming "colonial?" The agency through which we give hires locals for most of its programs, educating and training indigenous leaders to take over the organization's highest in-country positions. Many formerly-sponsored children now hold positions of leadership throughout the country in government, media, education, etc. I'm thankful and humbled to be a part of such positive change. -

The culture of "the white man" and specifically european civilization always were and always will be far more advanced than anything in Africa or Asia. Africans and Asians, they are the REAL barbarians. They are not living in poverty because they are being exploited by western companies, they live in poverty because they are barbarians, always have been, always will be. And thats the truth. Just ask any white man living in a black neighborhood

How typical a statement from apologists of this movie's premise.

i really do suggest you to move in a black neighborhood. you'll feel much better there.
Yikes. Like I said: a typical comment to come from apologists of this movie's sick premise.
Iceboxmovies is a Black person. Don't let his silly facade fool you. He's a racist, angry boy with an inferiority complex, and a fascist temperament.

Ha that's a disgusting statement as places like Singapore, Taiwan, Tokyo, Hong Kong and MANY other places in Asia are a helluva a lot more civilized, vibrant, and urm the exact opposite of barbaric. Hell Singapore is known to be one of THE cleanest and neatest places on this planet. It's like a giant Lysol wiped shiny utopia. Don't believe me go there and see for yourself. Your narrow minded view of the world is laughable and quite sad. There are plenty of places ALL over the US and Europe full of gangs, crime, poverty, and murder. I would know. I've lived in some of the worst cities here in the US like Los Angelos, Chicago, extremely run down Detroit, and currently right now Minneapolis. One of the most corrupt and crime ridden cities out there. Murders and all kinds of crimes happen here on a daily basis and people die in random drive by shootings and rapes alll the time. Sorry sweetie but BAD PLACES AND BAD PEOPLE EXIST EVERYWHERE AROUND THE WORLD.
You can't CLAIM to be one of the "good guys" and put yourself on a golden throne just because you're white honeybunch. Ironically you are one of the worst kinds of evil as you think being an internet tough guy shows off the limits of your masculinity while doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in real life to help anyone else at all. What kind of MAN is that? Sorry but a man that talks smack on the internet of all places and speaks uncaringly of his fellow human beings isn't really much of a man at all. I don't really give a flying fvck about racism. Because I've seen bad people AND good people from ALL races. You can't box people into cutesy little stereotypes because a human being cannot be put into a neat little category. A whole lifetime is not something that can be so easily judged like a random box on the road. I find it much more disturbing of your character that you find the sufferings of innocent children to be nothing more then shrug worthy. As if children who aren't the same color as you don't deserve to live and as if because of their race they deserve to killed. Just an: Oh Well! They're just blacks and asian orphaned kids living in warzones. Who gives a beep if they get sold into sexual slavery? Water off my back! Like as if those children are baby lambs up for slaughter. That says a lot more about your entire charcacter And it's pathetically disturbing. Inhumanely evil almost. How you can dismiss the sufferings of millions of children just because they're not white is amazing to me. -

I don't see your beef.
Its a true story that a white christian went to africa and made a change.
Thats what happened in real life. I read the article on a newspaper waaaay before i heard about this movie was even going to be made.
also, if Sam Childers happened to be black, would it change the fact that he's a christian?
So, your saying that they should make the movie less accurate and make him black, or this movie is racist?
Its not about race, dimwit, its about someone who because of God, feels the hurt of innocent people and wants to help.
If it was an indian/mexican/chinese/fill in the blank_race I wouldn't care.
Its a great man, doing a great thing.
If you don't like what WHITE christians do to help victims, then bury your head in the sand.

If you object to this type of film, do like I do: DON'T watch it!
As I said earlier, what is the point of
film criticism
if all we ever do is simply avoid evil movies and let other people watch them for us?
