Fair enough to feel angry, but to act on it? Did that man seem like he would respond well to aggressive questioning and anger? He needed to be placed in a mental health facility.

I agree. Even though they were angry, which is understandable and normal, they were very inappropriate in the way they treated him. Not professional at all.

        Not professional at all.
I must have missed the bit where they referenced Callie and Trisha's psychology qualifications. I might catch it on another viewing I suppose.

          What a ridiculous answer.
It has nothing to do with psychology qualifications but with
          basic human decency
and common sense. The guy was clearly distraught and in a deep state of shock, anybody who has ever spent time with another human being would have seen that.
          And
          especially
cops who deal with all sorts of traumatized people on a weekly basis, they are trained for that. Not to mention, it is standard procedure in such a case to perform a psych evaluation at the hospital.
I mean, it's not like the guy came back with his hands in his pockets, wearing a cowboy hat, guitar on the back, a matchstick between his teeth and singing the "Old Macdonald had a Farm" song. The guy was clearly weak and malnourished, was hardly able to answer a simple question, displayed obvious signs of PTSD and appeared to be in a constant state of fear. The first question he asks is "Can you see me?" for crying out loud. Then later he wets himself with no apparent reason How clearer can it be?
He had all the signs of psychological trauma and they thought it best to yell and slap him as if he knew what was going on.
I for one agree with OP, they treated him like crap when it was
          self-evident
that the guy went through some kind of horrific life-shattering ordeal.
People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs

Anger because they had been through so much pain.
            You are probably right.
To them though: Any normal person would be thrilled he was alive and home. Who the hell cares if he still had his damn wallet? Abductors don't care about $50 and a credit card.
Sure she moved on with the creepy cop. So what. No rule says she has to stay with the husband. He was too delusional to probably care anyway.

Any normal person would be thrilled he was alive and home.
Put yourself in Tricia's position. Your husband goes missing, and you spend seven years trying to find out what happened to him. After going through all that trauma, you finally give him up for dead. You start a new relationship, sign a lease on a new apartment, and you're finally ready to put all the misery of the last seven years behind you and then he just randomly reappears, and can't even explain where he's been.
She reacted badly because she was confused, and his sudden reappearance had just turned her life upside down all over again, after she'd finally put it back together. And worse still, Daniel couldn't (or wouldn't) even give her an explanation about where he'd been all that time.
Who the hell cares if he still had his damn wallet?
Having a wallet meant that he could be identified and had access to funds, which cancels out a lot of the possible explanations for where he'd been. And if you were going to kidnap someone and hold them for seven years, you'd probably strip them of their personal effects. To still have your wallet in your pocket after you've been missing for the better part of a decade is kind of weird.

I definitely agree about their frustration of course. That would suck. But I guess the being mean as opposed to taking him to a mental hospital him was troubling to me. But perhaps that was not an option. It's been a while since I watched it.
It is weird that he still had the wallet yes. A year later I agree.

I thought the way they treated him, especially the detective, was horrible. How do they know he wasn't kidnapped and the kidnapper just never had a reason to take his wallet? The detective saying, "You ate animal boneswanna explain that one?" all accusingly like he had committed some crime, obviously if he was eating animal bones it was out of desperation. If I were Tricia, I would have been livid at the detective, my current love interest, for behaving that way.

Well said and spot on. His personal agenda with trish got it the way of his professionalism as a detective.

True but after 7 years she could leave him for the cop. He was mentally gone anyway. He probably would not care.

If the detective truly loved Tricia, then he wouldn't have liked to see her in pain. My guess is that he was angry that she had been in pain when there was seemingly no reason for him to have been gone, thus making her suffering Danny's fault; that anger, combined with the feeling of being so close to having a real relationship with her only to have it taken away, could make him act that way. Yes, it was totally unprofessional and unsympathetic, but he's human.

They're all dealing with their own issues and they couldn't deal with the fact that he had been gone for 7 years with no explanation as to where he was.

Just sheer frustration at what he'd put Tricia through, with no explanation.
I found it uncomfortable to watch, but understandable - I think most people would be beside themselves with worry/rage if someone they loved vanished for a few days, never mind seven years.

I think they could've been a little kinder due to his situation. Possibly find a way to have him hypnotized or something. But he was annoying in that he would not give up any info. I can definitely see why they were mad.

                                    Super simple:
Detective was mad because he was going to finally get a real shot at a relationship with Trish, and on their very first date, her husband comes back! Bummer! lol. It took her 7 years to move on, and he knew how hard she was holding on to her husband.so for him to come backughhe was pissed.
Trish was mad because she had been put through the wringer for 7 years not knowing where he went. She's obviously in a lot of pain and mental anguish at the beginning of the movie having begun meditationfinalizing his death certificate. She is FINALLY to the point in her life where she is ready to move on with a guy who loves her and gave her a babyand here this guy comes back to drag her back to insanity.
they were both being selfish in their anger, and didn't care that he was traumatized.
