Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Age of Adaline

    Scarlett_Butler — 9 years ago(June 04, 2016 09:49 AM)

What a drama queen. William recognizes Adaline (not knowing it's really her) and mentions that he was close to her. His wife literally gets up from the table and storms out. He's literally never talked about her before and says a few nice words about how bright Adaline was, and his wife just flips out like he's been cheating on her for years.
    Annoying jealous bint.

Lol, you have clearly never been in a real relationship, let alone dealt with anything close to that situation.
      I doubt you're a woman either.
You didn't even get the facts of the movie correct. Fawning all over your son's girlfriend because of your love for her mother ON YOUR ANNIVERSARY.lol, I'm suprised all she did was fuss at him.
Good luck figuring out your future girlfriend, you're oFF to a bad start.

That was a thankless role she hadthe anniversary party seemed to be tacked on so we would know that Harrison Ford's character wasn't still head over heels for Adaline.
I would be surprised too if I were married for 40 years and my husband started crying over a lost love!

I thought she was being a bit out of line. It's not that he's gushing over an old girlfriend. It's that he's just found out said girlfriend is dead (at least from his perspective anyway) and her daughter is dating his son. Kathy's attitude seems to be "you're not allowed to mourn anyone on MY special weekend". It's certainly surprising but not something worth throwing a hissy fit over.

Well said MsSpiderGrrl. That scene reminded me of 45 years and the incredible tragedy for the wife when a lost love reappears.

Haha. I am a woman, just not an insecure headcase. Good luck to any man unlucky enough to deal with you.

EVERY woman would have reacted jealous. I think Kathy Baker's charcter waited quite long and was fairly calm considering the situation which must have hurt her. I doubt I would have lasted that long.
I was in several relationships to know men a bit better and can confirm from my own experience that men usually don't mention previous loves. They just feel uncomfortable doing that and don't want to make their new love interest feel unhappy or unloved in comparison with the previous woman.

he doesn't just say a few words, he's all sentimental and starry eyed remembering her, clearly she wqs very important to him, it is bound to irritate his wife. nobody likes to feel they were someone's second choice.

"This person was important to me 40 years ago" = "You're my second choice"?
WTF. How insecure do you have to be to jump from the former to the latter?

He was getting very sentimental about her. And kept going on about how much like her mother the girl was. i can see that could be irritating. And he would have married adeline had she been willing, he bought an engagement ring for her. that does in a way make the wife his second choice, even though he has obviously been very happy with her. lots of people of course have people in their past they would have married if they had the chance, but i don't suppose they usually meet up decades later with a daughter who is the spitting image of the one they would have married.
