They hi-jacked a vehicle in Paris carrying cash and shipped the money to Las Vegas.
They created $3m of forged currency so good that even the bank couldn't spot it, despite it being made of flash paper.
They hacked a bank account and transferred $144m into 600 other specific bank accounts at the same time without the bank spotting it.
They stole a safe, opened it, and put all the money in someone's car without anyone noticing until the owner turned up.
At the same time were able to carry out an elaborate, and pointless, car swap while driving at speed in busy traffic.
Compared to that the "magic" was pretty lame, and just put them at risk of getting caught.
You didn't really need to be a magician to do the magic as it was all done with technology, so why not hire some robbers, forgers, and stunt drivers in the first place?

Honestly, the whole plot of this thing was so stupid it's incredible it got made.
The term 'willing suspension of disbelief' must have been coined after this movie was made.
One of the dumbest movies i've seen in years.

Ok, lets put aside the fact that the film makes no connection between "The Eye" and the Illuminati, that the Illuminati is probably not real, and that if it is it would be hard to believe that its members would all believe in the supernatural.
My point was that the skills of the people recruited were ideal to fake the magic, but completely wrong to pull off a series of crimes of the century and dangerous car stunts.

Simply put I think the message of the movie is to have faith. Have faith in yourself, in what you believe in, and in what you want in life. The reason they made it so elaborate and didn't use "real" magic so to keep you guessing until the end where they revealed that the "magic eye" was real.

When did they reveal the eye was real? The carousel? How do you know that wasn't just another illusion?

The point was to join the secret society, not to make money.

I just wonder what David Copperfield makes of all this.
