p.s. I'm not referring to their Youtube video, but their actual body langauge and demeanour when watching news of their friend supposedly dying DESPITE BEING THERE AND KNOWING HE WAS FINE).
Well they had to do that or else the audience will know right away his death was faked. You gotta take some liberties there. What else were they going to do? If they dropped the facade straight away when no one else is watching you'll blow one of the surprises.

It should've skipped that part and come back to them making their youtube appearance.
      I think it's a joke

Just not have that scene. It wasn't needed - as theCurlyone says, just go straight to their Youtube video.
You can't have characters specifically act in a certain way purely to fool the viewer and for no other reason at all and still hope to maintain credibility. I'd understand if they were in a bugged room or were being watched on CCTV or something, but they're not - there's absolutely no reason for the characters to act sad/devestated at the "death" of their colleague when noone is watching them, and therefore it makes absolutely no sense for the characters to be acting like that. It's just an exceptionally stupid thing for the writers/director to include in this movie (amongst many, many others).
When you watch good movies with twists in them, there's always a justifiable or understandable reason why a character who is involved in the twist gives the viewer the wrong signals. E.g. Usual Suspects, Sixth Sense, The Others, Fight Club, Identity - at no point do you have instances the plot the characters do something purely to trick the viewer and for absolutely no other reason.

and the 4 horsemen are now tricking the viewer for no real reason at all in a pathetic manner ("oh, boohoo, poor pickpocket friend is dead.oh wait, he's not, PSYCHEEEE, we got you viewer" - p.s. I'm not referring to their Youtube video, but their actual body langauge and demeanour when watching news of their friend supposedly dying DESPITE BEING THERE AND KNOWING HE WAS FINE).
I liked this movie but you have a good point.
After reading all of the comments/pages(6 of em?). I think this is THE ONLY VALID point of the you Haters of this movie. 😛

This was the most surprisingly bad movie that I've seen in a while. Based on the rating, premise and cast I was actually looking forward to watching it.

After seeing the trailers and the amazing cast, I really looked forward to seeing this movie, and I really wanted to like it. But it sucked.

Everyone in this thread are movie snobs, seriously. Movie snobs are worse than music snobs. This movie was entertaining, can't wait for you guys to hate me because I enjoyed something you didn't.

Three words for anyone and everyone who psted here tearing this movie down: Suspension of disbelief.
you slam th acting which wasn't as bad as many of the movies that have come out recently, Identity Thief, The Colony to name two. The plot while convoluted and complex is followable and agree or not realistic in our world, you just have to actually pay attention to the subtleties and the background to see whats going on. I will admit the tricks they did were less than what I expected and perhaps would not have worked in the real world as well but could have worked. Someone mentioned the mirror box as an example of a crazy trick that wouldn't work. That trick is about dimensions and angles, it doesn't matter if your in the room as long as you are far enough back that no one is in the area of reflection, right under the mirror. If you atch though its the fith horseman who is in front of all the cops and stops first, as a rule when the first person into a dead end stops so do the rest. All he had to do was make sure he was far enough back in a room built to allow unloading of a truck into the safe, with the cage closed.
As for the twist at the end it does make sense if you look at it carefully, rewatch the movie for instance, you'll see the foreshadowing. From his age he is looking towards FBI retirement and needs to induct new members into the eye, he needs a test for them, wants to retire early, and still wants justice for his father, because, keep in mind they do point out the people he goes after are still doing the same things, ruining carrers and lives, skipping out on paying what they owe and doing dirty business practices.
As for his persona, it wasn't that hard to see, an FBI agent who is also a gaurdian and one who brings justice to those who are decived by magic? A ten year old orphan who's father appeared to be a failed magician choosing to cover up his past? Even change his name? Someone who is from a long line or at least good enough to be induced into the eye being willing to give up his old life for something bigger than all of them?
If you wonder what God thinks of money look at who he gives it to

I was told by certain people that this movie was well worth the money I spent renting it. While I would not say this movie was "brilliant" by any stretch of the imagination, I was fairly entertained. I gave it a 6/10 for it being halfway decent. However, I did figure out it was Mark Ruffalo well before the "surprise" twist ending revealed it, so there was some predictability in the film. All in all, you could do worse. Olympus Has Fallen would be an example.

Acting of that French Interpol lady gave me AIDS. The Twist on the
movie were all predictable. Random scene through out
the film. I literally had to check if my DVD Skipped the scenes. It sucked a big time to be honest.

Okay, so the film is a tad pretentious, thinks it's much more clever than most of it's viewers (though I'm sure it was, to quite a few casual film viewers, not the types found on imdb, as this film was clearly not produced for) had a few lame plot elements that weren't consistent with the twist, unless it was all just an 'act' to make sure the trick passedbut the film
                                WAS
                                about magic, which
                                IS
                                a very pretentious art/entertainment form,
and about an act, which is all about throwing distractions and glitz and so the film was loud and flashy, just like a magic showso I don't think it really sells itself as anything other than what it is.so the ranting and massive dislike for it is a bit over the top from all the film professors here. I mean, it
                                was
directed by the guy that did The Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titanswhat did you expect? The Prestige?

Completely agree with the OP - i decided to check it out in spite of the RT score (which can be a very hit/miss indicator of quality) and go on the IMDb score man was i wrong in doing so. This movie was terrible. The supposed intellectual dialogue and twists that were so painfully obvious to the audience, the horrendous acting (especially from Ruffalo, Fisher, Franco), the beep "magic" cgi (especially when the movie emphasizes that "magic" doesn't exist, only illusions), and the plot as a whole.
Don't believe the IMDb ratings; this is a below average movie.
