I would guess it flopped for logical reasons, such as the fact that almost nothing in this mess was logical. There were plot holes so huge you could drive a Mack truck through them. None of the characters was ever developed into anyone you could care about at all. And the camera seemed to be located atop a spinning platform that practically made you dizzy in every scene.
        Other than that

It didn't just have SOME plotholes, it was made up ENTIRELY of plotholes. None of it made sense for five seconds. There's no script, so the director paces everything so fast and fills it so full of noise, flash, would-be clever lines and B.S. that he hopes you won't notice his film is complete beep

I think the main problem was it just insulted the audience's intelligence. I just laughed out loud when the clich evil rich guy allegedly had millions of dollars in a bank account and it just went downhill from there.

                    How did that happen?
One would think that word of mouth would have torpedoed this pile.
Of course I didn't know about when I rented it, so there is that.

                      Worldwide gross.
It's very hard to make a movie flop with overseas markets willing to watch ANYTHING.
You almost have to try to make a movie no one on Earth will stomach.
Always remember, there are 7 billion people now. You only need to attract a fraction of 1% to make hundreds of millions in profits.
There's no reason to put effort into writing a solid story, because enough idiots love mindless special effects hence the "Transformers" franchise..

The sequel hasn't come out yet and they're already planning a 3rd one. It's one of those rare movie successes that isn't connected to a multi film franchise.

Because it's not a very good movie is the main reason

You're right, Jurassic World, Transformers and The Avengers are also insultingly bad, yet amassed millions. Let me therefore rephrase my reply:
Beats me. Yet, it still sucks major rotten donkey balls.

I understood what you meant, but next time you should work a little bit more on your grammar. If you think it's normal for millions of people to enjoy a juvenile, sloppy, downright illogical movie, and which therefore assumes the audience has the mental capacity of a toddler, it's your right. I for one, think it's appaling and alarming, and given that I am an intelligent being like everyone else in the world, I have the full right to express my distaste for such a shallow and contrived piece of factory-processed filmmaking, with the only aim of making millions, while making use of the lowest common denominator in Cinema.

And where exactly did I insult anyone? You on the other hand, had no issues with calling me "nitwit" and "a-hole" on your very first reply.
