Two military guys now?

When the new season premiered, and we only saw Grady and Josh together for the first several episodes, I just figured that the producers decided to scrap that particular format, but apparently not?
Not sure why you would think that. Those episodes were filmed months ago. The producers would not only be scrapping filmed episodes but throwing away the seasons budget by trashing completed episodes.
They could scrap the format after this season.
I think that the shows ratings have probably suffered a little, and they're keeping their options open, and trying different scenarios, perhaps as a boost to the sagging ratings?
These episodes were filmed months ago probably before the Grady and Bill episodes even finished airing. They would have no way of knowing about sagging ratings which only came when Grady and Bill were introduced. The ratings were fine when Joe and Matt were still around. The ratings drop came when Joe and Matt were replaced by an inferior duo.
I'm more inclined to believe that this change up is more about saving money and trying to fix something that's not broken which brought us Grady and Bill. -

I see Arbuckle. I was under the impression that Joe was a rather unpopular fellow, and dropped the ratings down a little. But of course this was all just speculation on my part. Clearly you have a better understanding of what's actually going on behind the scenes then do I, so just disregard what I'm saying, because it's mostly anecdotal.

Joe was unpopular. Any ratings drop from him was years ago when he replaced Dave. The show recovered and stayed pretty consistent as far as cable ratings go.
As far as I know the big drop and social media backlash came when Joe and Matt were replaced. I think it had more to do with Matt than Joe.
Clearly you have a better understanding of what's actually going on behind the scenes then do I, so just disregard what I'm saying, because it's mostly anecdotal.
I don't think you're necessarily wrong about the scrapped format and trying to change things to boost the show. The Grady and Bill duo were clearly the weakest pairing in the show's history.
I just disagreed about them scrapping it a few episodes into the season. The show is filmed so far in advance that it would be impossible to do. Not to mention that there's no way Discovery would just eat the production budget of the show which I assume is in the millions of dollars range. It's just not economically feasible for a show that was briefly cancelled before a last minute renewal. -

Sounds like as good of an assessment as any Arbuckle. I don't always put much thought into what I post, so if it sounds like it's something that I just pulled out of my bum, take it with the grain of salt -

As mentioned last season, season 8 was going to be the 'Grady Show', with revolving co-hosts. EJ "Skullcrusher" Snyder, Joshua James, Bo McGlone, and Jeff Zausch from
Naked and Afraid
were announced. The only thing surprising is that they didn't start rotating the host seat sooner.
During a Q and A with the producer, Christo Doyle explained that he'd like to have an arsenal of hosts to choose from each season, that the transitions will continue to come.
"'Dual' is going to continue to evolve whether people like it or not. What Im trying to do is build a stable of folks that we can rotate in and out so that we can see different varieties of guys getting mixed in together. And if that works out, you will start to see different combos of people. Im actively casting right now for other people. I think change is going to become the norm in 'Dual' and I think eventually you, the viewers, are going to like that."
As to former hosts reappearing on the show Dave Canterbury, Cody Lundin and Joseph Teti not going to happen. As to Matt Graham reappearing on the show, Christo Doyle said, "Everybody loves Matt. I would never say never. Matt might come back."
AFAIK, Discovery Channel has not canceled or renewed
Dual Survival
. With each episode this season receiving less than 1 million viewers, who knows what is really in store for the show. -

The difference is that Joe lied about his service, Discovery then covered it up, threats were made and the eventual lawsuit. Grady, OTOH, doesn't have a credibility issue that I'm aware of, although, it is rumored that he likes to pickup women in bars using his notoriety from the show. While intoxicated he supposedly spilled the beans on how the show is produced. Allegedly.

I agree that Grady and this new Air force guy made a dull episode. I don't like the dynamic with two military guys..
and the fact that Grady can never really start a fire unless they give him some sort of chemical, gun powder. -

Dave did lie about his service and was replaced with Joe. Dave later apologized to his fans in a YouTube video for the incident. When Joe lied, he kept his job and kept up the lie. Meanwhile, there were allegations of arson, bad checks, stealing, threats and of course his service. With the latter initiating a lawsuit by Joe who claimed he was defamed. Later, that lawsuit was withdrawn by Joe when he was called-out by a Special Forces General. The dog incident was perhaps the final straw or at least the most public before he departed from the show. Discovery and the 'Dual' producer claimed Joe's leaving was mutual. Christo Doyle said, "Basically we ran our course with Joe. Mutually, he was ready to be done and we were ready to make a change." Some have called that misleading and point to Joe's past as to the real reason he was no longer on the show.
An allegedly leaked confidential letter indicated that security and any Discovery staff that manages the reception desk, were not allow to let him in the building and that he must leave the premises. If he didn't, to discretely contact security and the police. Evidently, they had concerns.

I'm not happy with the rotating hosts like they are talking about. It's hard to start liking a new host (such as Josh or Matt in my case) and then find out they were replaced with this guy or that guy. For me, I like to be able to have a connection with the people in the show, and I cannot do that if they constantly get new hosts.
I only watched one episode with Bo and Grady, and it was just 'meh'. Don't get me wrong though. Bo seemed like a very admirable and likeable guy, but between him and Grady the chemistry was lacking. I thought the purpose of Dual Survivor was to show two opposing point of views/way of live of living. I'd hardly call a guy from the army and a guy from the air force as opposing points of view.
Obviously, the producers of this show will do as they please but unless they start actually listening to the opinions of their viewers, this show will languish and quickly be replaced by another. Personally, I like this show and I hope they stop rotating hosts so much. It's too bad they couldn't rotate people that have already been on the show, you know?

That might depend on who you ask. An air force guy is liable to have something to say about the army and vice versa. LOL
But in all seriousness, I like the concept of the opposing points of view. Unfortunately it sometimes gets downright silly. The military guy always wants to keep moving, and the hippie (for lack of a better term) often wants to go easier and rest. It just seems a little contrived.
