I recorded the marathon last week and just got around to watching some of the episodes.
Watching these episodes continue to make me miss Matt.
During Joe's attempt to locate Matt he comes across a small body of water. He says he will come back to it later because he needs to find Matt. It wouldn't have taken more than a minute or two to stop and check to see if the water is fresh.
Can anyone explain to me why someone would just skip past the water without checking and waste water, energy and calories, something the show likes to harp on, going back to find out that it's salt water when he could have taken the extra minute to check right away?
I have to assume this was done for dramatic purposes and they knew all along that it was salty. The producers must have thought it looked good on camera having Joe walk back to camp with an empty dry bag and seeing Matt's reaction.
If anyone can give me an explanation that doesn't involve "for TV reasons" I would appreciate it.

I recently rewatched Matt's first episode and loved it. Joe shows up and Matt has a shelter that collects rainwater into hollowed out gourds and has a small animal cooking in the ground with hot rocks.

That was a great episode. Loved the in ground cooking and wish Matt had got to do that again on the show.
Don't know if you had seen it but Les did something similar on Survivorman with fish and basically steamed the fish with hot rocks.

I think they said Matt had been there for 3 weeks. He sure puts those Naked and Afraid people to shame.
I seem to recall Les cooking like that. And speaking of Les, he has a new Father and Son Survivorman on the 19th for Father's Day. It will be on the Science Channel.

Les lost his luster when he started doing Bigfoot hunts.
