Josh was good in this one. The shelter worked, collecting water and catching the crabs.
Overall good episode in my opinion without the drama.

Much better than the previous couple of episodes. I was still disappointed with how the first 20 minutes or more of the episode was wasted on building a signal fire. We don't need to see that. Show us the search for water and food instead.

Not for lack of effort. Grady tried to start a argument a few times when he disagreed with looking for water. WATER!!! On a deserted island Grady thought it was better use of time to build to build signals and signal fires rather than looking for water and doing that crap afterwards.
He eventually caved in, probably after realizing how stupid he looked. I'm getting really tired of these obviously scripted "disagreements" over "survival strategies" when they make no sense.

They land on the island and Grady immediately wants to start a signal fire?
Does he know they are filming an hour long show?

I can see that from 2 perspectives: the television viewer and the guy stranded on an island.
IMO, a signal fire would be a good thing to get going. If you were just lost at sea, there would likely be some kind of rescue effort getting underway fairly quickly. You'd want to be ready. Likewise, if you found a water supply, you'd want to have a fire to purify it.
As a tv viewer, they spent an awful lot of time looking for ways to start the fire. I would have rather seen more details of the shelter construction.

I don't think I explained myself very well.
IMO, a signal fire would be a good thing to get going. If you were just lost at sea, there would likely be some kind of rescue effort getting underway fairly quickly. You'd want to be ready. Likewise, if you found a water supply, you'd want to have a fire to purify it.
They already had a fire going when Josh mentioned looking for water and Grady disagreed.
Grady said he thought it was better use of time to build 3 large signal fires to have ready to light if a boat came by again. I really don't have a problem with it in theory.
My problem was they already had a fire going with rubber flip flops nearby that they could burn for black smoke if needed. I know that 3 is the universal distress signal I just think thought it was a bad idea at that time.
As you pointed out they had dedicated a lot of time just looking for ways to start the fire. If they built the 3 signal fires they ran the risk of running out of daylight and going into the night and into day 2 having no water and no shelter.
IMO it made more sense to look for water seeing as how they already had a fire going and plastic bottles that they could purify water in. Use the rest of the day building shelter and in the morning build the 3 signal fires and use whatever else washed up on shore to help make signals.

I had forgotten sequence of events. Yeah making the 3 fires at that point was over kill. I'd be inclined to want to be able to make a big fire on a moments notice if need be, but not go to that added effort of 3.
