Maybe in an episode next season they'll find his belongings in the scenario of a hiker who went out ill prepared.

Yeah, he's knowledgeable. But he's also cocky, which suggests to me he isn't as skilled as HE thinks he is. Those are the kind of people that get into trouble.

I agree ricka. The first and worst nail in his survivalist coffin was episode one when he blew that oh so precious lifeboat match to check the cave for C02 levels (The friggin things burn under water!
) insisting that he could make fire without it.
From then on it seemed that Bill was never to ever endear himself among the fans. -

That entire episode was infuriating. Some context from the narrator about how much time they had before dark and how far they were from the tree line would have helped make their decisions more palatable for me.
Regardless, he was inferior to Matt and Cody. He seemed to lack the foresight that Matt and Cody would regularly demonstrate by gathering as they walked throughout the day. I only recall him doing this once when he took the tree fungus. Cody and Matt would take fire starting material early in the day even if it was damp and dry them as they walked so they could be used in the evening. They didn't just assume they would find drier material down the road. Having said that, he grew on me and it wouldn't have bothered me if he stuck around for another season.
The only people who have left the show that I really miss are Matt and Dave. -

Same here Arbuckle. I've watched a few episodes of Dave's new show Dirty Rotten Survival, but I haven't caught any episodes lately because I've been busy, but it's a pretty good show. I wishlisted Dave's Bushcraft 101 book over at amazon, and plan on picking it up at some point. Bill's quirkiness also began to grow on me as well.

I remember one episode where Cody blasted Joe for wanting to collect firewood as they went. He said he NEVER packed firewood. Of course Joe collected a pile of little sticks that would burn for 20 minutes at best, and suggested they burn them 1 stick at a time for warmth. LOL
I wouldn't have MINDED if Bill stuck around, but I can't say I'm sorry to see him go. I just wonder how much he was acting on the advice of the powers that be on the the show. If he was, that would really suck: doing what you were told then getting fired because of it.

I kind of think that he was? If you notice, these characters are all pretty much stamped from the same cookie cutter. The military guys are more or less the same persona, same as with the hippy survivalists. Now some of them are more convincing and likeable in their roles, such as Matt. But others, such as Bill, were unable to pull it off in such a fashion as to be convincing or likeable. I liked Bill, but I'm just weird that way
Never liked Cody though, and most of the fans seemed to? -

I think your description is highly accurate after Cody and Dave. I don't think either of them were depicted as being particularly extreme in their personas. Dave was fairly easy going, and didn't repeatedly use the word "mission." Cody was hippyISH, but I don't recall him saying a prayer over an animal they killed for food. I also don't remember his worrying about stepping on sacred grass, although he probably smoked his fair share. But since Dave and Cody, they have been pretty stereotypical.
I was "ok" with Cody at first, but his refusal to wear shoes always annoyed me. As the show went on, I grew to actively dislike him. When he started talking about the producers putting them in harms way, I wondered how much less the risk would have been if Cody would just use proper attire.

I recorded a marathon the other day and just watched that episode the other night. After they argued Cody agreed to carry some wood yet when they camped they only had ONE pile of sticks.
The burning one stick at a time was one of the funniest scenes this show has ever had.
One of the other episodes Joe tried to make fun of Cody for picking up camel dung not realizing that they needed that to start a fire and disinfect water. Cody made a joke saying if he doesn't have crap in his pants now Joe will have crap in his later.

I think he was heavily influenced by producers in the beginning. He really calmed down after episode 3 which would coincide with producers finishing editing on the first couple of episodes and seeing the train wreck they started. Part of me wonders if the producers thought they were recreating Matt Graham by playing up the nature loving and quirkiness not realizing that Matt never boasted about his skills and was infinitely more likeable and easy going than Bill.
