The Family Guy and South Park are the only american comedies that come to mind as remotly funny. Americans should stick to dramas that is what they do well not try to reproduce foreign shows.

Family Guy and South Park as the only funny American comedies? You don't watch much, do you?
Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development etc are all hilarious, the latter being one which Copeland wrote on.
Saying Americans don't 'get' British humour is beyond outdated. They get it perfectly well, and I imagine their Inbetweeners series will have a lot of awkward humour similar to these shows and films like Superbad etc.
I think it'll turn out fine, and if not, who cares.

Oh dear god I hope it fails so hard!
It pisses me off beyond reason that beep MTV is remaking it. The only thing worthwhile on that network is the recently revived Beavis & Butt-head.
What I just don't get is why does the U.K. get the original versions of all the American shows, while America has to remake all of the British shows before they can air here?
I guess most people in Hollywood are too lazy to come up with an original idea.

I knew before even entering the message boards there would be brits raving about how their comedy is so much funnier, and how American comedy remakes aren't funny. I've come to the conclusion brits say that for one reason, they are british. Because this movie was absolutely mediocre. I chuckled maybe twice. No lol moments at all. I rated it 4 stars, and I thought that was generous. No memorable funny scenes or linesthe fact I watched it will be forgotten in a week.

When you lower standards yes you can mass produce something. Enjoy your big bang theory and two and a half men, I shall enjoy actual comedy not your generic, lowest common denominator detritus enjoyed by plebs such as yourself. Stay classy America.

I think it was Bret Easton Ellis that said Americans are very good at satirical humour, whereas the British can't be beaten when it comes to absurdism.
I agree with this, and prefer British comedies because they're just more suited to my taste. I'm Australian, so I don't think I can be very bias.
But yeah, give me Black Books over The Big Bang Theory any day.

The other MTV adaptation of a hit UK show, Skins, did miserably and completely failed to get the style of the original British series right. I think the same thing will happen with the Inbetweeners' US version; it looks like a poorly-made Disney series for kids, not the self-ironic quality from the original UK version.
For one thing, the Inbetweeners' cast were all awesome actors and great at comedy;, the American cast has never done anything similar to that and they're all mostly the inexperienced kind you see in Disney or Nick shows. They should just give the remake a new name; it's not the Inbetweeners.

Count me in. I'm sure it'll fail even more so than the US remake of 'The It Crowd' if that's possible.

Of course it will fail most people haven't heard of the show and those who have seen the show have already seen the film.

As a huge fan of the original series, I had to watch the first episode of the US remake last week and all I can say is WOW it's bad!
The actors do not fit, not one bit. They all have the same names as their british counterparts, only none of them are remotely funny. Neil looks more like Neil from the Young Ones with his long hair. Jay looks more like Fat John being the chubby guy, and there is so little profanity in it there was barely any point, since the network also bleeped out the word sh!t the couple of times it was used!
Watched the second episode the other day, where they go to the theme park, it's worse than the first.
As a guess i'd say that 80% of the dialogue been written almost line for line, with just the swear words changed!
Don't get me wrong, I love US comedies too - but this doesn't work for me. However, I would be interested in what Americans think of it, and what they think of the British series if they ever saw it!
