Everything was Perfect but… Will's girlfriend was wrong!

They had most the screen time, script was also built more around their relationship than the others. Thought she was badly miscast too, girls like that don't go for people like Will, regardless of how bad that sounds.

Have to disagree. I knew a lad who was JUST like Will at school - both in looks and mannerisms, and he also ended up marrying a stunningly beautiful woman.
I've been a fool but you know I wouldn't kill for you -

I was also fine with Will's girlfriend. I am not sure if their relationship would amount to anything more than platonic in the end, but I think at that moment the girl wanted a safe, consistent guy. I imagine since she already found a hot guy beforehand, that hot guy being the Greek fellow who cheated on her, that she had not been looking for anybody else at all (I think that is the reason she was speaking to Will, because he was safe). However, he was the next available guy in line (as crass as that may sound). When she broke up with the Greek fellow, she was on the rebound and the only other guy around that she liked was Will. This is all just conjecture on my part, though. I can only interpret the reasoning of fictional characters so much.
The only couple I absolutely hated was Simon and Lucy (the girl he kept talking to about Carly, I think that was the character's name). If Simon had awesome abs, great hair and a fantastic smile, I may have believed this woman's desperation - or if she was painfully ugly and desperately wanted a screw while travelling abroad. Neither of these things were the case. She was very cute, he was simply above average, but acted like a total ass to her. It made no sense to me. -

simon is a good looking guy. usually girls don't fall for rock hard abs. just a normal guy with a nice face. and fyi you don't have to be butt ugly to be desperate and have low self esteem, or be desperate for sex. you don't know women at all if you think you have to be goregous to get a girl to like you. usually if you act like you don't even like them, they will want you even more. girls like a chase too.
i know plenty of girls who are very pretty but have low self esteem, and may even come off as desperate to certain guys, who show no interest in them. it's like they need all guys to lust for them otherwise they feel like shyt.

I never wrote that you need to be gorgeous to get a girl to like you. I was pointing out that Simon made a rubbish impression with his personality and Lucy simply had no reason at all to be patient with him. He effectively gave no reason personality-wise to be liked and he simply wasn't good-looking enough to justify liking him, either. Being an average guy with a nice face and no abs won't give you a free pass for acting like an ass.
Lucy's role was to be
Simon's girlfriend by the end of the movie
and there was no more depth to her character beyond that conclusion.
It's that simple. -

there were brief moments where him and lucy connected. i think that is what hooked her in. although after he grabbed her ticket and ran to the boat, that should have been the last straw. my guess is low self esteem
