When the monster goes to the event wearing the paper mask, it should be obvious (even in the dark) to the security man at the back door that something is off. As she climbs up the stairs, didn't he see the hideous creature from behind?

Yeah very far fetched. But the entire movie is an allegory anyway so every scene is symbolic for self hate vs self acceptance and unconditional love.
