Sorry if this was explained before or real obvious from the movie but how was the information drained out of the first terrorist from the very beginning of the movie? My understanding was when he was sleep deprived he shared the information the CIA needed? Is that correct?

No. After a terrorist attack that actually took place (but he wouldn't have known since he was isolated) the interrogators tricked him by telling him the attack failed thanks to information he had given (but doesn't remember giving due to memory loss from sleep deprivation) so as a reward they allow him a huge meal with which he "softens" and gives up the name.
