I love the idea of a ghost ship in the first episode, maybe, and then turning back the clock to the ship's last departure, and slowly finding out why this ship came back with nobody on it. It's a nice, creepy idea.
But, like a previous poster said, a cruise ship offers all kinds of interesting and great possibilities.

If they combine a past history of a pirate ghost ship , with a bunch of people on a modern cruise , it could be good.
I can already picture the creepy opening credits with water dripping in lower parts of a ship , bodies sinking in dark waters , etc.

Frances Conroy - The Rich Widow : distraught and coping by spending money
Lily Rabe and Emma Roberts - Mysterious women (you find out several ep's in are mermaids :P)
Evan Peters - cruise staff that uncovers secret about mysterious women on board
Zachary Quinto , Michael Chiklis , Dylon McDermott - ghost pirates
Danny Huston - ghost pirate captain
Angela Bassett and Flin Wittrock - US Coastguard who get stuck on the ship when their Coastguard boat goes down
Sarah Paulson and Wes Bently - married couple
