American Horror Story, you've outdone yourself.

I suppose you're right. I guess my problem is that I need to lower my expectations tremendously going in and just enjoy it for how bad it is instead of being flabbergasted that it's as terrible as it is. Maybe that's the point. I'll work on changing my attitude about it and try seeing it from your perspective instead.

I do have to say I had FUN last night, even though I was as appalled in many cases as you were. I had FUN, my heart rate was up, my respiration was all over the place. The show did that, if nothing else, so kudos. My Mother hates violence/"gore" and even she thought it was a hoot. I did NOT have fun with what I saw of 'TWD' premiere, hah. And that actually possesses a degree of 'creative integrity' and yet I was like "beep this beep right off the bat (no pun intended).
mind you, I haven't actively watched 'TWD' since S2 (which I actually loved, contrary to popular reception). But I digress.
I will say in Roanoke's favor that I fully-intend to watch the entire season, I DO suspect on some level that it will 'dramatically redeem' itself in episode 10 (which could, best case scenario, end up being a rather 'poetic indictment' of Hollywood Reality Stars) and I did NOT watch the entire season of
Hotel
. I just couldn't. First time that's ever happened with a show I was 'in for the long haul' since
Desperate Housewives
after S4 (again, I loved S2 which everyone generally loathed, hah).
I strongly feel that E5 & E6 of Roanoke ECLIPSE every single episode of Hotel with the possible exception of
Room 33

I feel you on TWD. I've stuck with it from day one - don't ask me how! - but I was pretty appalled by the season premiere as well. It was gratuitous in the worst way, and it lacked respect for the audience in my opinion. I think perhaps my feelings about that episode sort of extended here, because I had hoped for more from this season of AHS. Seriously, I enjoyed the first half of the season so much, that the change in quality from episode 6 onwards has been startling. I think maybe I just haven't adjusted to it yet and I need to see it for a campy gorefest and stop expecting it to be a dark and compelling/disturbing horror driven by the characters.
Geez, and a Desperate Housewives reference too. I feel like you and I are meant to be friends!
I definitely agree with you that this is miles above anything Hotel had to offer. At least it has that going for it. -

I've completely let go of the hope that this show will ever be what it once was. Once I dropped those expectations and just let myself enjoy the ride, I found myself having a lot more fun. This show is no longer complex, thought provoking television. It's just batsht crazy.
I'm glad the show has stopped trying to recapture its glory days. As I said once before, if the show can't be Rosemary's Baby, I'll happily settle for Evil Dead. (Actually, at the time, I compared it to Insidious But that no longer feels accurate.) -

it's
funny
that so much vitriol is directed at Jessica and everyone's always saying something to the effect of, "the show is so much
FREER
without her and she really tanked the whole beep series when she suggested
Freak Show
(as though it's somehow her fault how
FS
was written as a whole)" but I HIGHLY doubt your above sentiment would have ever
truly
pertained to this show if she had never been a part of it.
It's a shame because some of Ryan's work is the greatest emotional/psychological material throughout all of television. Nip/Tuck. Nip/Tuck. Nip/Tuck. -

I agree it's over the top, but not in a good way. It's getting too unrealistic. Yes, there is a lot of unreal things in a supernatural TV show, but there's a limit before it just gets silly.

I truely do not understand how anyone can like this season. I have viewing parties at my home because I have a large group of people who love this show as much as I do. We all HATE this season. Its empty of feeling. We do not care about any of the characters and the carnage just seems to be there for shock value. I had hopes for the big reveal in episode 6 but that episode was terrible. All the news/entertainment tonight interviews and things.just stupid. I kept expecting a Kardashian to show up. This is not the American Horror Story I know and love. I'm not the only one that feels this way, my entire group agrees. If this were the first season.it would have been the last. IMHO

It really is terrible. I saw another poster above say that they basically turn their brain off to watch it and accept that it's just mindless television, which I guess explains the reactions some of the fans on this board have to it. Seriously, some people act like it's the greatest show on television, but this season is pretty bad now. I was into it at first, but the switch up to the new format KILLED it. The characters are hollow and lifeless, and they only exist to be brutally murdered. I have a group that watches with me too, and we're all equally disappointed with this season too.
